General Description
The Team Leader of Physical Education Centre(PEC) oversees the development, management and coordination of all curricular and extracurricular sports and fitness activities at XJTLU. The position provides PE teaching; team coaching; administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletic programs, facilities and activities. The PEC is responsible for ensuring compliance with all university regulations, administering departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner and sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all times.
Main Responsibility and Accountability
Student Affairs Office envisions a dynamic, diverse, inclusive and harmonious campus environment where student-centred high quality programmes and services are provided to meet students’ diverse and complex needs out of classroom while complementing their academic goals. As a subdivision of the office, the Physical Education Centre (PEC) plays an important role in providing satisfying and professional curricular and extracurricular sports programming for our students. The main areas of responsibility for the PEC are: PE Classes, Intramural Sports, Team Sports, Sports Clubs, National Defense Education/Training, and the National Physical Testing. The responsibilities of this position shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
Make sure PEC best supports XJTLU’s strategic vision- Create and execute annual operational plan for the team, aligned with the operational plan for the Student Affairs Office
- Oversee planning and operation of PEC work on teaching affairs, including courses coordination and arrangement, course selection,
- To teach a PE class in relative field of expertise ( person for the following, but not necessarily be limited to, sport: Golf, Jazz Pop Dance, Ballet, American Football, Martial Arts, Taekwondo, Yoga, Softball, Volleyball, Karate, aerobics and so on.)
- To provide team leadership and coaching, communicate team status, task accomplishment, and direction
- Oversee the implementation of quality assurance system (QA), review QA procedures and suggest amendments where necessary
- Improve working policies and procedures related to the development of PE teaching practice
- Monitor team budget, under the direction of the head and deputy head of Student Affairs Office
- Collect and analyse departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate
- To represent the University at professional meeting and other special or public events
- Coordinate efficient communication channels with students via email, phone, etc.
- Coordinate with partners within and outside XJTLU, governmental agencies, external moderators and examiners, where necessary
- Manage, lead and mentor a staff team
- Complete other duties as assigned
Position Qualification Requirement
Skills and Knowledge
Excellent at written and oral English and able to effectively communicate with people from different diverse cultural backgrounds- Highly proficient IT skills: MS Office (Word, Excel and Access), Outlook, worldwide web, databases, spreadsheets and PowerPoint
- Strong background in physical education and sports
- Patient with all questions put forward by different students
- Able to handle confidential information in a professional manner
- Energetic, service-oriented, able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Attentive to detail with strong organizational skills
- Able to work on weekends or after working time
- Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines
- Committed to providing high quality service to a diverse group of students
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good management capability and leadership
Qualifications and Experience
- Major in Sports or Physical Education, or other closely related disciplines
- With a master degree, and at least 3 years work experience on related area; Or, with Bachelor degree, and at least 5 years work experience on related area; Or, with doctor degree
- With at least 3 years of progressive leadership experience
- University working, and professional athletic experience is preferred
- Oversea study or working experience is preferred, and the requirement of the work experience can be loosened up accordingly.
