Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Reports to Director, Project Management:


The incumbent will work to successfully deliver SPX projects in a manner that fulfils contractual and technical requirements, meets or exceeds customer expectations, and adheres to safety and ethical standards, while achieving SPX target margins and promoting SPX’s reputation in the market place. The Sr. Project Manager leads and delivers large, revenue-generating customer projects from early participation in sales activity, including proposals, through to project closure.

Manages project complexity involving numerous internal and external stakeholders, a high degree of technical complexity, considerable multi-site coordination, global and virtual team working, and high levels of functional integration.


For each project, key responsibilities include customer relations, time scheduling and cost forecasting, reviewing and reporting progress, managing consortium partners, if any, and major subcontracts, managing change order process and claims management, project cash flow, and resolving all project related issues. The Sr. Project Manager is expected to own each assigned project and protect its gross margin by closely monitoring material and labor costs and taking action to correct and report variances of these costs. This role is responsible for resolving project problems in a timely manner, and maintaining project quality and adherence to schedule and budget.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and lead the SPX cross-functional Project Team. Identify the project targets, address tasks to the Project Team members and monitor the activities.

  • First line of communication with customers and consortium partners

  • Regular communication with major sub suppliers and SPX internal departments to address issues related to past, current, and future topics. Set up meetings schedules and communication rules. (For example, this could include working with related groups, such as EH&S, on issues and resolution.)

  • Contract management with interaction between all parties involved

  • Financial responsibility to maintain target margin of project, forecast revenues with full visibility and costs associated with projects, incl. POC and progress, develop payment schedules (cash flow plan)

  • Project time schedule management between engineering, construction, and supply chain resources

  • Responsible for maintaining accuracy of Project Status Report and provide regular updates to management

  • Change order and claims management

  • Project risk management

  • Travel to customer or internal meetings (offices, job sites, workshops)

  • Responsible for managing projects in all countries in which SPX does business

  • Review project contracts, track deliveries, and time and material order processing

  • Material costing and as-sold margin verification

  • Identify and support continuous Operational Excellence (OpEx) improvement initiatives

  • Initiate and drive a successful Lessons Learned process to inform other projects and/or the proposal managers of new projects

  • Act as an agent of Company per corporate guidelines

  • Project assignment is based on size and scope

  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of material for both domestic and international shipments

  • Ensure compliance of all documentation and packaging for domestic and international projects

  • All duties as assigned

  • Project Scope & Change Management: Defining and validating the project deliverables and work to produce them. Managing and responding to requests for changes to project in a structured and controlled manner.

  • Planning & Scheduling: Using information about activities and deliverables to determine the overall project duration, and when activities and events are scheduled to occur.

  • Project Resource Management: Identifying, securing and assigning resources to activities so that the project is delivered within scope, cost and timescales.

  • Budget and Cost Management: Ensuring budgets are estimated, agreed, tracked and managed properly throughout the lifecycle of the project

  • Project Risk and Issue Management: Anticipating, identifying, assessing and addressing potential or actual events and items that may impact positively or negatively on project delivery or benefits realization.

  • Project Quality Management: Project quality management is the discipline that is applied to ensure that both the project outputs, and the processes by which the outputs are delivered meet the required stakeholder needs.

  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Reviewing and reporting on all aspects of project progress through the timely and accurate collection, maintenance and dissemination of project information to stakeholders.

  • Project Review and Evaluation: Conducting regular reviews to check project progress, evaluate achievement of project benefits and capture and disseminate lessons learned.

  • Project Closure: Finalizing all project matters, including obtaining agreement to completion from the customer, handing back or redeploying project resources, archiving all project information, conducting final project reviews and sharing learning for future use.

  • Program Management: Managing multiple projects concurrently, taking into account resource constraints, in order to achieve a common business goal.

  • Project Health, Safety and Environmental Focus: Determining and applying SPX and statutory standards and methods to minimize the likelihood of accidents, injuries and environment impact, both during the project and during the operation of its deliverables.

  • Contract Management: Managing the execution of contractual agreements with customers and suppliers to ensure we are compliant with the stated terms and conditions throughout the duration of the project.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • in Business, Engineering, IT or related field; or
  • Extensive and proven project and/or implementation management experience of large, complex projects across Engineering, Procurement and Construction / Commissioning.
  • Experience managing teams of 50 to 100 people
  • Proven experience of using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP/SAP) and project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Experience working with remote/dispersed teams is highly desirable
  • Experience working on international projects is desirable
  • Total Work Systems (TQM, Six Sigma, Lean, ISO)
  • MS Project - Expert preferred, proficient required
  • Engineering experience is an advantage
  • Experience of the food processing, chemical or pharmaceutical industry is desirable but not essential
  • Proficient in MS SharePoint
