Job Description

Summary

Plastics manufacturing technical expert (ie: film extrusion, tubing extrusion, RF bag sealing, heat seal technologies, etc.) for the production of flexible medical solution containers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish technology and process related global standards based on a deep technical knowledge and upstanding of our processes
  • Provide technical expertise, trouble shooting, and training across global facilities
  • Drive process improvements to improve quality through the prevention and elimination of product leaks.
  • Develop a deep technical knowledge of Plastics materials & processing for flexible medical solutions containers including: film extrusion, tubing extrusion, bag sealing (RF, Heal Seal), as well as all related test methods and process controls.
  • Provide technical problem solving and root cause analysis utilizing standard engineering tools (e.g., FMEA, Finite Element Analysis, Process Modelling, Design of Experiments, SPC, Multi-Variant Data Analysis, DMAIC) on deviations and process/product failures.
  • Through the use of data, identify, develop, and deploy process improvements to prevent and eliminate the potential for product leaks.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements initiatives to reduce scrap and improve efficiency
  • Ability to work across functions and global manufacturing sites to create collaboration, solve problems, and determine design standards.
  • Provide engineering support for projects, including: process improvements, material / design / process changes, design verification, and manufacturing trials.
  • Develop technical documentation in support of project deliverables and requirements, such as protocols, reports, and change control supporting documents.
  • Provide technical training across global facilities
  • It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend 4-6 months gaining direct shop floor experience working hand in hand with our current Plastics SMEs at our Baxter facility in Belgium (or combination of other facilities)

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Plastics)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the plastics processing industry.  Experience in Flexible Solution container manufacturing and/or Medical / Pharma is preferred.
  • Proven technical leadership and engineering problem solving skills.
  • Ability to select and apply statistical and other techniques to solve complex engineering problems practically and efficiently.  A six sigma background (Green or Black belt) is preferred.
  • A “hands-on”, results driven individual with a solid manufacturing / operations background.
  • Skills and aptitude to support troubleshooting of production equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Solid understanding of plastic materials and related manufacturing processes, equipment and product requirements.
  • Business acumen within an operations environment (e.g. capital planning, cost drivers, value improvement opportunities, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively participate on and provide leadership to cross functional teams, with minimal guidance.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present to project teams, senior leadership, and decision makers.
  • Individual looking for a specialized technical career path
  • Candidates with experience in multiple languages is a plus
  • Willing to travel approximately 25-30%
