Summary: Plans, executes and functionally directs important engineering assignments, which require independent judgment.  Effectively applies advanced engineering principles with focus on mechanical design, experimental and computational methods to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design with team input.

Description:

  • Devises new approaches to complex problems through application and adaptation state-of-the-art techniques in the area of expertise, with focus on computer aided design, simulation and experimental mechanical engineering tools and methods
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Able to clearly present complex concepts and tailor communication to audiences, including senior management. Organizes and presents technical project management overviews without assistance. Oral and written communication is well planned, organized and has a clear logical flow
  • Supervises/coordinates engineers and/or technicians on assigned work
  • Generates and leverages existing and new intellectual property for new therapy and/or clinical use. Also, authors articles in journals and contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
  • Schedules and leads both internal and external teams through the planning and execution of a complex projects. This includes constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with product development, quality and manufacturing teams.
  • Creates and communicates project plans, tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones
  • Engages in personal and continuing learning in order to broaden knowledge in mechanical engineering and to gain knowledge in new fields of general engineering and/or therapy areas in order to improve the individual effectiveness and to avoid technical obsolescence

Requirements:

  • Display an advanced understanding of theories/practices utilized by primary area of expertise.
  • Proven experience in parametric 2D & 3D design, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, geometry re-engineering from imaging (cloud point data), linear and non-linear structural analysis, deep understanding of plastic materials, injection molding.
  • Proven experience in design of fixtures, development of custom test methods and data acquisition for mechanical methods, with a focus on impact.
  • Experienced in design of experiments and statistical analysis (Minitab)
  • Expert in the use of mechanical engineering tools, i.e. Creo, SolidWorks, Abaqus, Moldflow, Minitab, Hypermesh.
  • Ability to design and solve complex engineering problems by decomposing them into actionable task lists with minimal assistance
  • Ability to independently determine courses of action and with minimal assistance and convince others using both written and verbal methods
  • Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for engineering projects with substantial complexity and scope
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of methodologies for ‘root cause’ investigations.Independently identifies and applies the correct problem solving tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions, make recommendations, and drive implementation, based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e. Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.)
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience. PhD. in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. A minimum 7 years of engineering experience.

Preferred:

  • Expert in linear and non-linear Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus)
  • Experienced with impact simulation and testing of complex assemblies.
  • Expert in Parametric Design (Creo, SolidWorks)
  • Experienced in Tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • Working knowledge of Quality System Regulations (QSR) and Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC, Lean SS, DFSS)
  • Understanding of design requirements for medical devices
