Summary
Apply measurement science, mathematics, physics, and engineering principles to develop, design and support measurement systems, processes and procedures for calibration of measurement and test equipment (M&TE) based on analysis of measurement problems and accuracy requirements. Use statistics to analyze calibration standards and processes. Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures. Recommend calibration standards. Monitor compliance with calibration laboratory and/or departmental quality systems. Develop software to assist in calibration laboratory and or/departmental processes. Manage and direct teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and document systems, methods, and procedures for calibration of measurement and test equipment in various areas (electrical, mechanical, dimensional, physical, thermal, optical) based on analysis of measurement considerations, desired metrological characteristics, and available authoritative standards.
- Analyze and solve complex calibration and measurement problems using engineering, physics, statistical, and mathematical knowledge.
- Perform and document measurement uncertainty analysis for measurement standards and associated measurement processes.
- Direct the Metrology team in the methodology needed to calibrate various measuring equipment within sophisticated measuring systems, considering system design and validation requirements.
- Complete design and technical tasks using innovative approaches, integrating information from a variety of sources and disciplines and implementing cGMP principles and practices.
- Provide technical support to R&D, manufacturing, and technical services locally and globally.
- Analyze data using engineering software tools.
- Maintain compliance with quality systems.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, engineering, and Metrology systems.
- Detailed knowledge of Metrology-related standards: ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO/IEC Guide 98, etc.
- Proven ability to perform and document complex measurement uncertainty analysis.
- Familiar with design and integration of statistical process control and calibration interval analysis.
- Ability to apply specialized theoretical knowledge to a broad range of difficult problems.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and effectively present technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of validation and cGMP principles in an FDA regulated environment.
- BS degree in engineering, physics, or other technical discipline and a minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in measurement sciences.
- MS degree in engineering, physics, or other technical discipline and a minimum 5 years’ experience in measurement sciences.
- At least 5 years’ experience in an FDA regulated environment.
Desired
- Supervisory experience.
- Previous Metrology support to manufacturing and R&D on a global scale.
- Active involvement in professional Metrology organizations.
