Summary: 

Administers the occupational health (OH) program throughout a geographic region, deploying key occupational health and wellness initiatives at all locations in the region and collecting metrics related to identified OH campaigns and strategies.  This position serves as the primary point of contact for all occupational health professionals in the region.   Serves as a business partner and consultant to management to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs and risk through continuous improvement of the occupational health program.  Practices within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements.  All OH professionals within the region are considered indirect reports to this position.  This position reports directly within the region and indirectly to the EHS Director for Occupational Health and Safety.

Essential Functions:

  •  Oversees the occupational health program at multiple locations to assure that these programs are aligned to meet corporate requirements and address the employee health risks at the site.    ·

  • Conducts a strength/weakness/opportunity/threat (SWOT) analysis for the region to identify occupational health program opportunities and to contribute to global goal setting.   ·

  • Provides OH consultation and support to U.S. and Canadian facilities, both with and without an on-site Occupational Health resource.   ·

  • Collaborates with other EHS professionals and management to provide oversight and quality assurance to the root cause analysis process and to ensure corrective and preventive actions are appropriate and effective. ·

  • Supports individual facilities in identifying optimal staffing needs for occupational health.   ·

  • Actively participates in the recruitment and onboarding process for all new occupational health professionals.  Mentors other occupational health professionals within the region. 

  • Analyzes the continuing education needs of EHS professionals in the region as they relate to occupational health competence.  Designs and delivers regional continuing education offerings to meet those needs and facilitates regional OH personnel networking and practice sharing.  ·

  • Maintains professional competence at a high level, and presents on occupational health topics both internally and externally.  Incorporates current research into occupational health strategies.  Assures compliance with applicable health and safety regulations

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in computer program use
  • Critical thinking and decision making skills  
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Experience managing other professionals 
  • Certification in CPR/first aid required, occupational hearing conservation and pulmonary function testing as appropriate 
  • Ability to work effectively with other disciplines and subordinates
  • Ability to develop, manage and communicate occupational health programs

Education / Experience necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • Registered nurse or physician with current license to practice required.  Master’s degree preferred if a nurse 
  • Minimum of 8 years of OH program management experience required 
  • Certification in OH or specialty certificate required
