Our International Quality Team currently has an opportunity for a Senior Instructional Designer, Team Lead.  This person hired will manage the training course design and development processes, evaluates course design, and applies best practices related to teaching and learning. This person is also responsible for managing two individuals on the team as well.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Senior Instructional Designer, Team Lead manages the training course design and development processes, evaluates course design, and applies best practices related to teaching and learning. They also manage the workflow of online course development, assigns instructional design staff to faculty for consultations and training sessions, and reviews and documents course development and other services provided by instructional design staff.

  • Provide work progress reports.

  • Maintains instructional design records.

  • Manage a team two of instructional designers, ensuring training material is designed and developed that meets the needs of the business and is delivered in a timely manner, as defined by project and program deliverables.

  • Demonstrate commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of applicable Quality Processes as per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Understand and maintain awareness of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job.

  • Perform reviews of online courses and other instructional materials and activities, to recommend revisions that are in accordance with best practices and Abbott standards and the expected learning outcomes.

  • Provide training course expertise to the ARDx business, supporting business units and divisional functions in the determination of training course requirements and deliverables. The training is on an electronic platform.

  • Provide Project Management during design to implementation phases of the learning solution. Interface with internal customers and vendors as necessary during the online design process.

  • Source and evaluate third party training programs.

  • The Senior Specialist level role will typically be responsible for complex analysis of the training needs of employees to develop training programs that enhance their know-how, skills, and performance.

  • Design, resource, and deliver training programs, or recommend externally-provided programs, which meet the needs of individuals and are consistent with the organization’s overall training plan.

  • Compile handbooks, manuals, guides, and other materials so training programs are delivered with high quality resources.

  • Keep abreast of developments and innovations in training and education in industry and government education sectors so the organization’s training activities remain current and relevant.

  • In addition, may be responsible for designing, resourcing and delivering larger, more complex training programs.

  • This role will coach and provide instruction to lower-level professional staff.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Associates diploma or HS Equivalent plus 8 years of similar job experience in same type of Quality instruction role. (Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, or a related discipline is ideal.)

Preferred

  • 5 plus years of creating and managing curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, or a related discipline.

  • Previously managed a minimum of 1 staff member is critical for this role.

  • At least two years of experience with Storyline and Adobe Captivate is critical to have for this role.

  • HTML5 coding knowledge is a plus

  • Some knowledge of Regulatory Quality Assurance (in Medical devices or Pharmaceutical industry) experience is ideal.

  • At least one year of experience in project management:

  • Ability to think clearly, write concisely and communicate effectively, including being able to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms.

  • Expertise in the areas of instructional design, the practice of educational development, and adult learning theory are critical for this role.

  • Knowledge of best practices in instructional technologies, online, blended, and face-to-face pedagogy is required. 

  • Skills in designing and delivering training programs that focus on instructional technology and practices used in the improvement of instructional effectiveness are required.

  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is critical for the person hired in this role.
