Team Description

The Automated Visual Inspection (AVI) team within Baxter Engineering is a group dedicated to improving 100% inspection of Baxter’s products at various stages of the manufacturing process with the aid of camera-based inspection systems.  Its members work both internally and externally to identify, develop, and implement the latest vision system technologies into Baxter’s manufacturing process at a global scale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or lead cross functional teams to design, develop, install, and qualify new technologies (e.g., machine vision systems) within Baxter’s solution container manufacturing process to improve product quality.
  • Utilize engineering tools (e.g., DMAIC, FMEA, Design of Experiments, Statistical Analysis, etc.) in support of continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing processes at domestic and global locations.
  • Lead projects within Baxter’s change control management (CCM) process, from initiation through closure.
  • Change Owners must assign and prepare impact assessments, develop change plans, write and execute engineering studies, develop detailed project schedules, while working closely with manufacturing plants, Quality, Regulatory, supplier, and various scientific/ technical groups.
  • Communicate project and task status to project team members, management, and stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to generate RFQs, support design and installation activities, and to address issues and/or make improvements to these systems throughout their lifecycle.
  • Generate technical documentation in support of project deliverables and requirements, such as protocols, reports, and change control supporting documents.
  • With minimal guidance, must be able to participate in teams through the execution of multiple smaller projects or a defined larger project.  This includes preparing detailed project schedules, project cost estimates, or interfacing with other technical support staff, engineering, and manufacturing groups.
  • Identify equipment/automation issues and recommend potential improvements to ensure the best possible performance of the technologies being implemented into our manufacturing process.
  • Must be able to coordinate and supervise the activities of consultants, contractors, and mechanics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 2+ years related experience.
  • Must have manufacturing experience in a regulated industry (experience with small or large volume injectables, plastics and/or elastomeric products – a plus!)
  • A preference will be given to candidates who have experience designing, developing, and/or commissioning new equipment or processes in a manufacturing environment (vision system experience – a plus!).
  • Must be able to present and communicate results and recommendations to project teams and decision makers in both written and verbal form.
  • Must be able to effectively operate within, and facilitate, cross functional teams, with guidance.
  • Must be able and willing to travel domestically and globally (up to 30% travel).
