Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Coating process engineering and control, support Development, technology transfer from Development to Production, and contractor manufacture management.
- Work closely with Development team to develop and prove feasibility on stage2 product/process/capabilities to stage 3; and scale product/process/capabilities to stage 4 and transfer to Manufacturing.
- Assume responsibility as a coating expert focusing on fundamental understanding of coating materials and processes to:
o Manage thin film design and recipe portfolio.
o Convert optical requirements into thin film designs.
o Design manufacturing processes using existing production assets and current fundamental understanding to produce thin film designs.
o Specify metrology methods to characterize thin film designs and manufacturing performance. E.g. Thin film metrology using spectrometer, ellipsometer, nano-indentation, AFM, and other metrology tools for material, surface, stress, hardness, abrasion, stress, and surface flatness measurement.
o Specify cleaning, material handling and storage procedures within the thin film coating process flow.
o Partner with mechanical design to develop prototype and production tooling.
o Lead fundamental process understanding projects to further thin film capability.
o Integrate Design for Manufacturing (DF/X) methodology into thin film product and process designs.
o Transfer knowledge of new thin film designs and processes to manufacturing.
o Coordinate IP management with the division IP portfolio manager by utilizing internal “R-reports”, invention disclosures and patents.
o Setup and complete FAT and SAT for new coaters for production.
- Drive continuous improvements activities within a program to deliver improved process capabilities, delivery, quality and cost.
- This position works closely with program manager, supply chain, contract manufacturer, operations management, functional leaders, engineers, and commercial organization to establish work priorities and work assignments for improved program/project efficiency.
- 30% travel may be required – domestic and internationally within Asia
Education & Experience:
- Required Education: BS/MS/PhD in Materials Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in an engineering or technical role in a D&E or Engineering environment.
- Minimum of 2 years project management experience.

- Knowledgeable in material science and analysis skill.
- Problem solving skills demonstrated through troubleshooting on product or process related issues.
- Good communication skills in English and Chinese, and good team player.
- Self-motivated.
- Strong leadership skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to develop others.
- Demonstrated project management experience including design, execution resource management and start-up with a proven track record of achieving results.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, commercial, and other functional leaders.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in manufacturing environment.
- Experience in technical problem solving and root cause analysis to drive improvements in manufacturing process capability, machine reliability and equipment output.
- Ability to transfer and integrate new technology into a manufacturing environment including process startup and technical knowledge transfer.
- Experience in the application PEx tools, Problem Solving skills, MEE tools.
- Green Belt or Six Sigma certification.
- Ability to coach, develop and mentor other engineers. Able to provide direction and motivate others within an extended project team that may include outside contractors and vendors.
- Experience with computer software applications including Microsoft Office, Visio, MS Project, AutoCAD or Minitab/JMP.
