Job Description
As a Design Manager, in the Specialty segment of Current, you will get the opportunity to lead a design team in the oldest and most storied LED business in our portfolio and even the world. You will help the team define the next steps for the segment, while delivering key NPIs which build on the Tetra, Immersion and GTx brands. You will get the opportunity to work with unique and talented specialized engineers delivering creative and cost-effective products to our professional customers every day.
Essential Functions:
Technology Lead
· Lead design engineering team to deliver new LED products and LED components
· Prioritize design engineering resources and manage new product development to budget
· Lead NPI technical deliverables, leading engineering team to deliver products on time and on budget
· Own whole product validation process from concept, feasibility, final design to production
· Own design for cost and design for manufacturability on the system level
· Provide technical guidance to design engineers as they design and release new products
· Be knowledgeable and able to apply relevant industry and segment guidelines, standards and regulatory trends and be able to translate these for the engineering team
· Like all roles in Specialty, this is a player/coach role where you will be expected to lead teams and roll up your sleeves as an engineer and program leader.
Customer Intensity
· Leverage application experience for lighting products to set team strategies and provide design guidance to product team
· Work with commercial team to get voice of customers and transfer that into product design phase
· Clear communication with commercial team and on NPI program status
Collaborate
· Work with Quality, Manufacturing and Sourcing Teams in interfacing with suppliers, as needed, to drive product launches
· Minimal domestic travel for supplier interaction
Additional Responsibilities:
· Work with the Asia Site Leader and your local peers to represent the global Specialty team in key local operational initiatives and decisions
· Support and leverage your peers and other engineers on the team globally
· Step beyond your role and lead cross-functional efforts in support of the Specialty team
Qualifications
· Bachelors of Science in Engineering or other related discipline
· 5+ years of experience in the lighting industry, in depth knowledge of LED products
· Demonstrated capabilities in cross-functional team leadership
· Broad knowledge base in high technology environment
· Product Development and Program Management experience
· Ability to work globally in a culturally diverse & multi-discipline environment
· Experience in LED Technology product line and LED systems architecture
· Demonstrated ability in analysis, testing, and problem solving
Preferred
· Six Sigma background
· PMP Certification
· Experience working with lighting & electrical codes and standards
· Experience with lighting specifications and use of absolute photometry for SSL systems;
