Job Description

Amgen is seeking a Specialist Data Engineer with creativity and passion to drive innovation and change in the Source to Pay (S2P) space. The Data Engineer will design and develop reliable and repeatable processes for the discovery, extraction and delivery of structured and unstructured data across numerous systems as part of Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) program. This role will be part of a new Agile Product Team being formed to deploy groundbreaking solutions across Amgen globally. Key responsibilities of the Data Engineer include:

  • Own end to end design and development of data engineering solution for CLM ecosystem
  • Collaborate with lead architect, Business SME’s, and external partners to design data solutions
  • Serve as lead engineer for the technical implementation of integrated data ecosystem for CLM project including planning, architecture, design, development, and testing in an agile setting
  • Experience working in challenging data integration problems by implementing optimal ETL patterns, frameworks for structured and unstructured data
  • Automate and Optimize data pipeline and framework for the easier and cost-effective development process
  • Develops Databricks Notebooks to extract data from the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) and Dynamic Mapping Engine (DME) to find opportunities to use analytics-ready data as a viable substitute for source system data extraction
  • Demonstrate Search and Natural Language Processing (SNLP) techniques to identify, extract, and tag unstructured data
  • Employs data engineering techniques, protocols, and standards to extract and deliver the data in a secure, reliable, and repeatable way
  • Prepares and maintains solid documentation throughout the project

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

Or

Master’s Degree in Information Systems and 3 years of data engineering experience

Or

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and 5 years of data engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the data warehouse space
  • 5+ years of strong programming experience preferably in Python, Scala, C++, Java, etc.
  • 5+ years of experience architecting and building ETL pipelines; Hands-on experience with SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience with AWS services: EC2, S3, EMR, RDS, Redshift/Spectrum, Lambda, Glue, Athena
  • Experience with data modeling and workflow management tools
  • Experience working in Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, Databricks, Kafka
  • Hands-on development experience with Databricks
  • Experience with Software engineering best-practices, including but not limited to version control, CI/CD, automated testing
  • Understanding of FDA regulations governing computer system validation and operation in biotech manufacturing and laboratory areas
