Zai Laboratory seeks individuals with expertise in immunology or oncology who will be responsible for leading a group of scientists in biotherapeutic antibody drug discovery programs in Immuno-oncology/oncology therapeutic area. The individual will report to the Director of Biology and work closely with in vitro, in vivo pharmacology and antibody discovery team, and supervise efforts of CRO companies to support internal projects.

Primary Function:

• Conceive, initiation and lead Immuno-oncology/oncology drug discovery project(s);
• Lead the efforts to develop appropriate functional assays in multiple formats to support discovery project.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Identify emerging clinical trends, initiate and lead antibody drug discovery programs in Immuno-oncology/oncology therapeutic area;
• Plays a visible role in decision-making process on cross-functional antibody discovery teams and effectively collaborates with other functions in the discovery department;
• Contributes to target identification, validation, characterization, and selection of antibody-based therapeutics for immunology and oncology;
• Independently design and perform scientific experiments including developing new methodologies/assays, protocols, and test procedures in immunology and oncology;
• Prepare technical reports, publications and oral presentations to the project team or upper management team;
• Collaborate with and supervise efforts of CRO companies to support internal projects.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Immunology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology related discipline. Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field is a plus;
• 3+ years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience with expertise in immunology or oncology and understanding of antibody drug discovery, has demonstrated strong record of scientific publication;
• Broad knowledge in immunology, hands on experience in cellular and molecular immunological techniques including ELISA, flow cytometry, in vitro functional assays, and cell culture, using rodent, non-human primate, and human samples;
• Hands on experiences in functional assay development such as T cell activation, cytokine release, mixed lymphocyte reaction, cell proliferation, apoptosis, reporter gene assay;
• Knowledge and experience with translational research is a plus;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Chinese and English;
• Self-motivated, function well in a matrix organization and a good team player;
• Extensive laboratory research experience and desire to continue in a laboratory focused role.
