Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer with Design for “X” (DFX) and manufacturing focus, you will work directly with the product design team from early concepts all the way through production. When it is time to turn concepts into reality you will work directly with the tooling and in-region teams to ensure that the parts and sub-assemblies are created exactly to the engineering cad. You will be responsible for all secondary processes (cnc, optical and decorative coatings, assembly) to ensure the design intent is met. In addition, you will establish SOP and line setup at the contract manufacturer

Responsibilities

 

  • Work directly with product design and manufacturing teams to ensure design intent is met.
  • Perform technical analyses, recommend, prepare and execute designs-of-experiments, and characterize process and design interactions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to identify, characterize and deliver manufacturing processes that enable the commercialization of unique and emerging technologies in new product categories.
  • Directing and setting priorities for product design team focused on creating new ways to solve complex design and manufacturing challenges, cost reduction and yield improvement efforts, inventing and commercializing new technologies and methods.
  • Stay current and versed in emerging technologies, materials, methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Contribute to project planning for development schedules.

  • The candidate must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support design and manufacturing activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, M.S. in related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years as either a hardware engineer directly contributing to product development or high-volume manufacturing process engineer involving consumer electronics, electro-mechanical systems manufacturing, and integration.
  • Experienced in designing for large volume production in a wide range of manufacturing processes (CNC, laser welding/drilling, Molding operations, Extrusion, lamination, printing, platings, fabrics, and complex mechanisms).
  • Demonstrated ability in product and statistical process control, MSA/GRR, part characterization, structured problem solving, root cause and defect/failure analysis, FMEA, DOE, FEA, reliability testing, statistical data analysis.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis, including usage of tools such as JMP and Minitab.
  • Proficiency with 3D design tools and other CAD suites. Knowledge in Pro-E/Creo and SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Integration and development experience with mechanisms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Background in Metrology tools and failure analysis.
