Position: Senior Lecturer in Sport & Physical Education

Location: Hunan Normal University, Changsha, Hunan Province, China

Salary: £45,000 per annum plus attractive benefits

Contract: Fixed Term contract 1 year

Hunan Normal University (HNU) and The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Sport & Physical Education to support the joint programme based at Hunan Normal University, Changsha, Hunan Province, P.R China.

Changsha is the capital city of Hunan province in south central China, there is a direct flight from London Heathrow to Changsha which takes approximately 12 hours. Hunan Normal University has campuses in five positions throughout Changsha City; the College of Physical Education is located on the South Campus. There is an International Faculty where international staff hold teaching positions. HNU also operates as a Confucius Institute and has over 36,000 full time students, approx. 1000 of which are international students from over 43 countries. The university is a comprehensive institution with 92 undergraduate programmes, 180 graduate programmes and 150 Ph.D. programmes running across a range of different subject areas as well as 18 postdoctoral scientific research stations. Within the five campuses, subject areas range from Clinical Medicine, Law, Journalism and Media to Sports.

Job Purpose

The appointee will facilitate the academic leadership and management, teaching, learning and assessment of modules within the Sport and Physical Education joint programme running at Hunan Normal University. The role will provide vital communication, liaison and quality assurance management on behalf of The School of Sport and Wellbeing at The University of Central Lancashire in collaboration with Hunan Normal University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Course Leader responsibilities (in country, based in Changsha) to ensure compliance to the Sport and Physical Education joint programme agreed delivery structure and quality assurance measures
  • To contribute to the development, teaching and delivery of undergraduate provision in Sport and Physical Education based upon knowledge and experience of delivering the UK National Curriculum for Physical Education.
  • To adhere to UCLan quality assurance processes and procedures and use different learning platforms and materials to enhance the student learning process
  • To liaise effectively between staff at UCLan in Preston and colleagues in Hunan Normal University
  • To engage with recruitment activities to promote the joint programme, including visits to local schools, colleges and industry
  • To develop and consolidate contacts with Hunan Normal University and other external organisations
  • To act as an academic advisor for students
  • To undertake administrative duties relevant to the post
  • Undertake any additional relevant duties as agreed with the Head of School / Academic Lead for Sport, Physical Education and The Outdoors.

Person Specification

Essential

Work Experience

  • Head of Physical Education Department Experience in a UK School or College
  • Course Leadership Experience
  • Experience of teaching UK Physical Education curriculum areas
  • Experience of developing teaching and learning resources.

Education/Qualifications

  • Good honours degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma of Education - Physical Education Secondary QTS
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification.

Skills and Abilities

  • High level of cultural awareness
  • Ability to lead and manage academic courses
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to teach UG modules in Sport and Physical Education
  • Flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well part of team
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines

Desirable

Work Experience

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Evidence of managing academic programmes at UG.

Education/Qualifications

  • A formal teaching qualification or Registered Practitioner of Higher Education Academy (D2 designation) or evidence of being able to achieve such designation within a probationary period.
  • Demonstration of academic or professional development to support teaching activities.
  • A number of National Governing Body coaching awards eg FA L2, UEFA ‘B’, UEFA ‘A’, etc.

Skills/Abilities

  • An ability to produce coherent and succinct management report and recording data metrics
  • An ability to network and liaise effectively and professionally with external institutions and colleagues
  • High level of IT skills in context of e-learning, including Blackboard or equivalent.
  • An appreciation of the Chinese language
