PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• The position requires an individual with rich experience in seismic interpretation, seismic acquisition and seismic inversion etc. In respect of the interpretation experience, the ideal history would involve both successful prospect identification/evaluation and field development.
• Experience in 2D & 3D seismic interpretation is a prerequisite as is working familiarity with the “leading edge” geophysical technologies - e.g., DHI, AVO and seismic Inversion etc. -as well as the conventional seismic methodologies – e.g. basic seismic interpretation, mapping, time-depth conversion and prospects/leads identification.
• The position will also require a strong understanding of acquisition and processing techniques and the ability to interact with contractors and supervise the geophysical study projects.
• The position will require the generation of recommendations on forward strategies and the preparation of “quality” reports for internal and external use.
• The initial focus area will be the exploration blocks in the Pearl River Mouth Basin with secondary or support participation envisaged in other assets in the Bohai Bay and in the Beibu Gulf Basin.
• The position will be also involved in the evaluation/technical DD processes of New Venture stuff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Conduct geophysical and geotechnical evaluations in accordance with accepted standards and procedures as practiced by top-level professional geoscientists – directed towards the exploration discoveries and development of the commercial discoveries.
• Be directly involved in the interpretation of existing seismic data and finalization of the drilling targets within the two exploration blocks in the Pearl River Mouth Basin and the planning/design of the exploration wells, as well as real-time geophysical update during drilling operation and post-drilling evaluation.
• Provide geophysical support for China other development projects in Bohai Bay and Beibu Gulf Basin.
• Prepare and present information pertaining to China assets for internal consideration and for external parties and relevant government agencies either as part of participation in current joint ventures or in a new venture environment.
• Recommend and manage internal and external technical projects/studies.
• Interact with other professional disciplines, e.g., reservoir engineering, geology and drilling etc.
• Attend internal meetings to help management make decisions.
• Coach or provide guidance to the more junior geophysicists.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Formal Education/Training
• 10+ years petroleum industry experience actively utilizing G&G skills; consideration will be given to candidates with less than 10 years’ experience dependent on their specific experience.
• Candidates with South China Sea experience will be preferred but not essential.
• Necessary or useful knowledge, skills & experience
• Extensive experience in Computer Aided Exploration (CAEX) technologies
• Sound PC & software skills such as Petrel and Kingdom.
• Good understanding of risk analysis, probabilistic volumes estimate and economic evaluation principles
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multinational team environment – with goal and objective driven work processes
• Preferred Software Experiences:
• Petrel and Kingdom as the main platform
• Petrosys mapping experience will be useful
