The Opportunity:

The purpose of this role is to support the Product and Vitality division deliver and maintain sustainable propositions in the market that meet the requirements of AIA Group.

About the role:

Leadership

  • Take ownership for the management, prioritisation, and delivery of tasks for the Product & Pricing teams

  • As required lead and coach the Product & Pricing team to achieve objectives

  • Anticipate new problems and explore new concepts

  • Actively build relationships with key stakeholders and develop good working relationships

  • Prepare executive papers and present to executive and other key stakeholders

Product development

  • Lead and manage product and pricing deliveries

  • Collaborate to help design sustainable products that meet customers’ needs

  • Provide financial and risk advice with respect to ongoing product management

  • Discuss and advise on new policy wordings and product literature

  • Support the product team with product reviews

Product pricing

  • Provide advice on  AIA NZ’s pricing and commission rates in market

  • Determine premium rates on a profitable basis after consideration of shareholder profitability, customer value and market position

  • Monitor the impact of price changes on new and existing business

  • Provide support for group quoting, including appropriate assessment of risks and recommendation of features to appropriately manage risk

Campaigns/Launches

  • Provide advice on campaign proposals including analysis of the costs, benefits and associated risks

  • Monitor and measure the success of product launches and campaigns, etc

Competitor insights

  • Monitor the competiveness of products from a pricing, product and remuneration perspective

Experience investigations

  • Review the results of the experience investigations and assumption reviews, and if applicable recommend actions the business may need to take

  • Monitor trends in local and international markets with respect mortality, morbidity and other risks

Customer focus

  • Ensure appropriate consideration is given to customer value and good customer outcomes in activities undertaken by the Product & Vitality division

Productivity improvements

  • Proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies, to minimize costs or make financial gains

Risk Management

  • Lead and manage compliance with AIA Group’s standards

  • Manage risks allocated to the Pricing team

  • Support as required the review of models, tools and technical analysis performed within the pricing team.

Support to Other Areas

  • Liaise with other areas of the business including the Product Managers, Underwriters, Claim Managers, Channel representatives, New Business Team, Financial Reporting team, Reinsurers, Brokers, Advisers and actuarial consultants as required.

  • Provide support as required to  other areas of the business as required

  • Other technical software skills e.g. R, SQL

Role Related Experience

  • 5-7 years of actuarial pricing/product experience, preferably in life insurance

  • Legislative and statutory requirements

  • Experience in managing a team

Qualifications

  • Fellow of the NZ Society of Actuaries or equivalent i.e. Institute of Actuaries of Australia, The Institute of Actuaries, or Society of Actuaries

  • Comply with continuing professional development requirements and professional standards of the relevant actuarial body
