What you’ll do
This is an opportunity for a talented and motivated software developer with strong expertise in generating high quality software application to join the team as an AI Engineer. You will focus on developing cutting edge image analysis software, drive automation and define workflow standards by supporting the drug project teams impacting AZ drug pipelines. To do this you will:
Work in a multi-disciplinary set up spanning pathology, bioinformatics and translational medicine to understand their scientific and technical challenges and proactively impact these.
Optimise performance and quality of existing software components as well as developing high quality software applications.
Work with our scientists to proactively automate workflows and train them in the tools/best practices critical for developing AI based image analysis.
Apply your strong statistical/analytical skills to development novel metrics derived from images.
Use your expertise in developing and applying novel algorithms to biological problems.
Share code, train peers and bench scientists in the tools critical to interpreting complex data.
Keep pace with the latest advances in the field of image analysis, software development and machine learning.
Essential for the role
Relevant PhD, M. Sc (or equivalent graduate degree plus proven applied experience), combining: Technical expertise in developing high quality software; Expertise in developing and applying novel technologies to analyse biological images.
3+ years of experience working with Python (related technologies) and applying software development standards.
Technical expertise in processing and analysing images at scale.
Familiarity with image analysis tools and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, ITK, scikit-image etc).
Good knowledge of TCP/IP, multithreading and inter-process communications.
Experience in designing RESTful APIs and Webservices with server components.
Enjoy reviewing code of peers, while being detailed oriented and result driven.
Talent for the conceptualisation of problems and analytical thinking.
Collaborative and open to new ideas, loves to work on a high-performing team.
Desirable for the role
Experience contributing to the research community through publication, conferences and open-source code projects.
Familiarity with imaging modalities (WSI, CT, MRI), especially histopathology images (H&E, IHC, mIF).
Experience and following of TDD principles.
Experience with developing of high-performant systems.
Good knowledge of database technologies (e.g. SQL, NoSQL, big data technologies).
Experience of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS).
Understanding of machine learning and deep learning methods applicable for building models based on images, for example CNN, FCN.
