Purpose of the position

This is a newly created position within our Standards Market Development Team. You will develop new and existing opportunities for securing external revenue in the form of research funding and the development of standards and/or standards related products & activities all the while raising and maintaining BSI's profile within the national and international Built Environment sector. Develop and implement strategies for engaging with the relevant market sectors/sub-sectors and manage and undertake relevant pieces of internal and externally funded research.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • The primary focus of this Sector Lead role will be building & product performance, fire safety and housing in the Built Environment.
  • Will have responsibility for development of sector opportunities across teams, bringing together the various operational contacts to ensure clear responsibility and development path for significant areas of work.
  • Via the development of mature portfolios and/or new areas of work ensure lead generation and networking. Work closely with our Standards Solutions and Standards Consultancy teams to generate new opportunities for consulting, research and private/public standards development solutions. Ensure the relevant internal teams are kept informed of sector developments and industry trends and provide a pipeline of leads through targeted market engagement activity.
  • Build a strategic network of key industry contacts, establishing BSI and yourself as a credible, knowledgeable and ‘go to’ source of information. To represent BSI at external meetings with subject matter experts, customers, government stakeholders, research establishments, academia and through these relationships be seen as a key player of the sector network. Maintain interaction with stakeholders to ensure experience and knowledge within BSI continues to grow and develop.
  • Scope, develop and deliver (as appropriate) projects supported by external funding to deliver on schedule and to budget, taking active intervention too secure objectives
  • Develop and implement Standards market development plans which have a 'whole portfolio' focus that delivers revenue across a whole sector rather than on individual projects.
  • Speak at key industry events, undertake and lead workshop and training activities and write articles/provide technical content to sector specific publications.
  • Lead and undertake market and customer research as required. Identify best routes to acquire market and customer information, identify and source potential suppliers of research and manage the process through to business case (as appropriate) to enable the development of new and/or existing products.
  • Will need to work with colleagues across British Standards and the wider BSI group.
