ScientificJob Description
Amgen is one of the world’s leading independent biotechnology companies. For nearly four decades, Amgen has pioneered biotechnology breakthroughs to bring state-of-the-art medicines from the laboratory to the patient. Using our DNA Encoded Library (DEL) technology, Amgen Research Copenhagen (ARC) contributes significantly to Amgen’s many small molecule drug discovery projects from hit discovery all the way to drug candidate selection.
We currently seek a candidate who will be part of a team bringing projects from the early hit discovery stage through lead optimization in collaboration with our colleagues in the US and other sites globally.
If you are passionate, creative, goal-oriented, openminded, hardworking, and have a desire to do groundbreaking scientific research within a new field of drug discovery, we may have a position for you.
As a member of the ARC Biology group, you will help us drive innovation within both traditional small molecule drug discovery and within discovery of novel bispecific small molecule-based modalities including targeted protein degradation; one of the fastest growing new drug discovery modalities. Amgen has committed significantly to this new exciting field of drug discovery and the DEL technology at ARC is central for this effort. The position will primarily involve biochemical and biophysical characterization of small molecule/drug target interactions but also development and/or implementation of novel biophysical methods for characterization of bi-specific small molecules. You will be working closely together with other biologists as well as medicinal chemists and participate with your biophysics expertise in the process of identifying, characterizing, validating, and optimizing hits from our DEL libraries in order to reach project and company goals.
Specifically, tasks will include:
· Affinity determination of DEL hit compounds by biochemical and biophysical methods
· Kinetic characterization of small molecule/drug target interactions by SPR
· Development and implementation of biophysical methods for characterization of drug/drug target(s) ternary complexes
· Screening of drug targets using DEL libraries
· Planning, execution, and analysis of biochemical and biophysical experiments and screens according to project goals and timelines
· Presentation of scientific results at team meetings, locally and across global sites
· Teamwork in a fast-moving and international environment
We offer a highly rewarding and stimulating environment in a world-class drug discovery organization. The position is based in our labs in Copenhagen.
The employee will report to Scientific Director, and leader of the ARC Biology group, Søren Jensby Nielsen. For further information contact: HR Manager Helena Pechter (hpechter@amgen.com, +4522605622)
Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, pharmacology, biotechnology, or a related discipline with a solid understanding of biophysics, small molecule/macromolecule interactions, and kinetics. The ideal candidate will have:
· Strong theoretical and hands-on experience with characterization of small molecule/drug target interactions by SPR and preferably other biophysical methods
· Knowledge of structural biology and drug discovery
· Experience with characterization of multivalent interactions is an advantage
· Interest in handling, analyzing, and communicating complex data sets
· Excellent collaborations and team player skills
· Excellent English communication skills
· Outspoken personality with an urge for creating high quality results
Application:
Please note that it is required to have a permit to live and work in Denmark for the position. All applications and contacts are confidential. We want your application as soon as possible, since selection starts instantly.
