Day to Day Responsibilities:

Model, simulate, and exploit algorithms for thin film & surface optics and optical fiber transmission system, such as beam propagation, diffraction and interference.

Provide performance analysis, data processing and design requirements for interaction between light field and surface-treated glass, including using optical design codes and commercial software.

Develop and test new material and optical design concepts to improve display performance -Model, design, and measure optical structures that produce desired scattering and diffractive properties.

Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and execute multi-disciplinary experiment plans

Develop and maintain a state-of-the-art understanding of current display and/or telecommunication systems technology

Document results from technical activities and interactions with customers and contractors with reports and/or oral presentations.

Support R&D roadmaps and project portfolios development for new products and processes.

Cooperate with other Corning research groups and business organizations across the globe.

Education & Experience

PhD in physical optics, material science or optical engineering

3+ years of research or development experience, preferably in optical modeling, optical engineering

More than 2 years as a technical leader and/or a core researcher of projects

Required Skills

Working knowledge of optics physics and optical properties of materials; Experience in free space optics experiments, Understanding of light-matter interactions

Demonstrated experience in data processing techniques such as Matlab, Python, C, or similar packages/languages

Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience collaborating with others

Ability to understand technology roadmap and project portfolio and able to develop and execute R&D plan.

Strong ability to perform product and process R&D in the lab environment; ability to utilize material characterization and modeling technique and tools.

Ability to learn new technologies and apply scientific method for technical problem solving.

Soft Skills
