Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system. Microsoft’s verticalized approach involves exciting innovations at every level, from the qubit device and quantum information plane, to the quantum-classical interface and classical compute system, all the way up to the system software, applications and global services. Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems.
Responsibilities
Come join the Microsoft Quantum Lab at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, and be hands on for the coming revolution in quantum computing! We are part of an international team of researchers, scientistist, mathematicians, and engineers who are designing, growing, fabricating, and characterizating the components for a topological quantum computer based on Majorana zero modes. We are seeking a results-oriented, communicative, and collaborative PhD level condensed matter experimental physicist, applied physicist, materials scientist or electrical engineer with experience in cryogenics (sub 1K), semiconductors and superconductors.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Work with an international team of researchers to characterize hybrid materials forming the basis of topological qubits
- Screen samples, work closely with fabrication and materials growth teams
- Carry out low-noise lock-in and rf measurements from millikelvin to room temperature
Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD in one of these topics, and comfortable with programming in Python, data management, and documentation. Fabrication experience is a plus, including electron-beam lithography and cleanroom techniques. Experience with dilution refrigeration is also a plus but not required.
- PhD in experimental physics, engineering, or applied physics
- Operation of cryostats below 1K
- Experience with low-noise measurement, noise analysis.
- Experience with superconductor devices, and optionally superconductors
- Radio-frequency electronics experience
- Programming experience preferably in Python
- Data management and documentation experience
Preference for:
- Device characterization engineering experience
- Cryogenics experience
- Microwave electronics experience
- Good communication skills
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
