Job Description
Principal Accountabilities:
- Play a role in book management: work on a desk to assist and manage the risk, exposures and positions of the physical trading book to ensure that profitability is optimized.
- Develop market knowledge through interaction with industry players, steel mills, hedge funds, brokers and other market participants.
- Contribute and report insights aligned to desk game plan under guidance of Trading and Book Manager. Faciliate critical insights from the team/market are captured accurately and timely to drive the trading engine.
- Support market risk team in the evaluation of risk/reward in the ferrous metals trading business. This is a great role for learning up-close about the trading of commodities and the use of price risk management techniques.
- Develop quantitative analysis capability that includes product development, structuring and sales. Design quantitative approach and models to deliver a product structuring activity that enables the BU to hit is PnL, risk reward, speed and productivity objectives.
- Assist to drive customer solutions to develop Cargill Metals Supply Chain as a customer of choice and develop a long term strategy centered on creating sustainable trading business model.
- Develop physical knowledge of commodity (i.e. steel) as well as shipping, logistics, quality, contract terms and operations.
- Manage execution of derivative orders via clearing broker channels or via screen trading systems. Can include physical execution of trades from conception to completion is done within Cargill processes, guidelines and guiding principles.
Required Qualifications:
- Good Bachelor/Masters degree with discipline in Econometrics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics and Quantitative/Applied Finance with no more than 2 years’ of work experience.
- Early career individuals with work experience in commodities/financial markets, private equity, hedge funds are welcome to apply.
- Advanced Excel skills, VBA and/or other programming languages, Matlab, SQL, R, Python
- Excellent quantitative and analytical facility with commercial acumen to provide solutions to business challenges.
- Demonstrated strong interest of commodity/financial markets
- Prior trading/field sales experience in the ferrous markets with ability to assess and manage commercial/price/market risk will be a key advantage
- Significant quantitative and analytical facility and commercially-minded
- Self-starter, entrepreneurial, innovative behaviors and strong business acumen
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst maintaining an analytical approach to work and be able to make decisions based on both knowledge and logic.
- Strong communication skills in English and Mandarin - written, oral, and spoken
