Our name suggests our way of thinking. Have A Good Bar believes that highly nutritious food should also be downright delicious and that no one should settle for choosing between mediocre and bad-for-you options. We believe that food should nourish your body and your mind. It should be clean, effective nutrition to fuel our lives, while being delicious all the while.
We are a newly formed food brand focused on creating the best products. To us, this means delivering foods that have maximum nutritional value, create no unnecessary harm to the environment and are truly delicious. We believe that good food should solve problems in our everyday lives.
This is why we’ve created the first whole-ingredient nut bars in China. They’re made with some whole nuts, dried fruit, honey and rice puffs. Simple and good. Have A Good Bar.
OVERVIEW
We are seeking a food scientist with a love for food. Someone who has a strong passion for developing creative and delicious consumer packaged foods for mass audiences by using a scientific process and approach that is informed by both quantitative data and qualitative insights. This means you must have a mastery of food as informed by food science. But at the same time, you should be greatly inspired by culinary creativity and expression. You are in short, a scientist chef.
As the person in the lab, you will be the driving force behind new flavors and new product creations alongside marketing and the rest of the product team. By working with these teams, you will develop innovative new products that are informed by consumer data and marketing insights. Our goals is to become the leader in a new energy bar food category here in China. Therefore we will always be pushing ourselves to be on the cutting edge of product development.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Recipe Creation
- Work with marketing insights and analyses to formulate new flavors and bar product categories. These will include various bar types that use a multitude of ingredients for different eating behaviors.
- Analyze market trends and customer feedback to develop insights-driven product theses alongside marketing and product teams
- Work with marketing and product teams to create and execute a holistic product development pipeline
Product Recipe Improvement
- Analyze customer feedback to implement insights that measurably improve existing products
- Work with sourcing and factory production teams to implement product improvements at the production level to achieve measurable results for the bottom line
Support and Coordinate Factory Production Execution
- Work closely with the factory production team to ensure proper implementation and successful production of existing and future products
- Work with factory production team to problem solve and find solutions to any production obstacles that arise
Interdepartmental Coordination and Process Management
- Work closely with the sourcing department for management of ingredient requirements
- Work closely with other R&D team members to effectively manage product timelines and deliverables
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years experience working in a top food FMCG company within product R&D
- Deep experience with the technical chemical compositions and properties of shelf stable foods
- Has working or educational experience abroad in the U.S. or Europe
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in food science from a top university required
- Master’s degree in food science is a plus

- Creative – Even though food science if the domain of expertise, also very interested in the creative and culinary driven side of food creation. Comfortable thinking like a Chef.
- Meticulous – Will obsess over the tiniest of details when it comes to formulation, creation and testing. Will not rest until something is done correctly and the desired product results are achieved.
- Ethical – High degree of personal integrity in all business and personal dealings.
- Bold – Unafraid to suggest unorthodox product ideas, as long as they are backed by defendable rationale
- Passionate – Loves their work. Genuinely gets excited at the thought of the tasks listed herein
