What you’ll do

Primarily responsible for the whole slide image analysis tools that are produced in-house. To this end, you will work with a team of 8 software engineers/AI scientists to create top-notch machine learning products which impact AZ Early Oncology teams in R&D project work on computational pathology tasks.

The Production Informatics group comprises multiple teams across the Cambridge UK, Boston MA, Gaithersburg MD, and Munich DE sites. The accountabilities of the group span pre-clinical and early clinical data strategy, multi-omics, and imaging based production informatics for Oncology Discovery, Translational Medicine, and Early Clinical portfolio. Drives the creation of a web-based platform for ML prediction on digital slides based on a continuously updated framework for deep learning architectures. Making sure suitable applications for e.g. automatic quality control, structure segmentation, detection and classification are developed to improve R&D project turnaround time.

  • Is the main point of contact for Early Oncology AZ users and stakeholders by collecting and prioritizing requirements and collecting feedback on product increments

  • Is the user representative for the product development team, and promotes direct feedback from internal and external users to the product team

  • Negotiates work with the product development team

  • Works closely with 2 other imaging product owners to embed machine learning applications into our image management/viewing/processing software stack.

  • Designs, evaluates, and manages delivery roadmaps for the managed products to realize technology and business strategy

  • Defines success for the managed products, ideally by defining measurable metrics, monitor, and report to management and teams

  • Organizes and reviews usability and UX

  • Actively participates in the scrum process and gives honest and direct feedback to the product team in sprint reviews and retrospectives

  • Assures product backlogs are refined for sprint planning

  • Documents release notes, reviews user guide/online help

  • Works with other product owners on build-or-buy decisions, and integration plans spanning the entire software stack

  • Works with data operations team to fit data flow and data provisioning schemes into the managed products and to ensures data governance policies are met

  • Organizes and conducts software trainings and support

  • Communicates product and product change (upgrades, replacements, phase-outs) to the user base, and creates communication material for a broader and executive audience

Essential for the role

  • Master’s Degree in natural or engineering sciences at a minimum

  • 3+ years expertise in the usage/the management of software for image data analysis/management

  • Image analysis background with a sound knowledge of methodology for detection, segmentation, and classification

  • Bioimaging background with a sound knowledge of major types of digital pathology imaging (brightfield, immunofluorescence, multiplex whole slide imaging)

  • Experience in requirements engineering following lean and agile principles

  • Stakeholder communication and management

  • Experience in scrum


 

Desirable for the role

  • PhD in natural or engineering sciences

  • Deep learning-based image analysis

  • Data science knowledge for subsequent analysis of quantified images

  • Knowledge in (immune) oncology

  • Knowledge in drug development (processes)

  • Product development experience
