YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Product Development Center Lead, are to:

  • Deliver the R&D pipeline globally; new varieties, traited conversions and seed for testing across the R&D pipeline;
  • Ensure timely handoff of products to Product Supply;
  • Provide strategic leadership as a member of the TPD extended leadership team that creates commercial value across row crops globally;
  • Attract, develop and retain talent to foster constant innovation and maximize diversity;
  • Develop an organizational culture that creates a great place to work, best in class positive work environment and growth of individuals;
  • Use cultural awareness and maximizes opportunities for teams and individuals by utilizing a global lens to lead;
  • Manage complexity to reliably delivery of experimental data and seed needs for soybeans and cotton globally for the Crop Science R&D organization;
  • Includes meeting targets, timelines, quality while adhering to federal, state, local laws as well as full compliance with corporate HSE and Regulatory policies;
  • Be responsible for soybean and cotton product design pipeline utilizing complex, technical single pod descent, rapid cycling, Biotech and trait integration process. This includes data analysis, highly automation systems integration, population selection utilizing cutting edge genomic marker technology and seed production within a controlled environment;
  • Develop technical pipeline strategies while partnering across Crop Science to accelerate product pipelines;
  • Create strategies to constantly innovate and maximize efficiency of operations;
  • Manages EBIT budgets of > $25M annually as well as capital budgets of >$5M annually;
  • Leadership accountability for ~90 fulltime employees as well as hundreds of contract workers;
  • Develop strategies and leadership within regional sustainability initiatives. This includes public outreach, environment and human rights areas of focus;
  • Partner across Crop Science to build strategy and achieve business
  • goals. Partnerships include Regional Breeding, Product Supply, Biotech, Regulatory, HSE, and IT;
  • Partner with Global Engineering, Nursery Solutions, Breeding Engineering and vendors to continue to optimize protected culture facilities as well as the capabilities within the site which are unique to Bayer and the Crop Science industry;
  • Be responsible for Bayer external image in an environment that is highly visible and contentious in relation to genetically modified organisms and LTO.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Minimum eight years with a Ph.D., 12 years with an Master’s Degree, or 14 years with a Bachelor’s Degree of proven effective leadership and business strategy development and implementation across large complex cross functional teams and talent development;
  • Demonstrated strategy development and implementation including innovation and change management;
  • Results orientation and collaboration;
  • The job requires the social competencies to understand, influence and motivate through leadership (lead by example; live LIFE values), combining professional backgrounds, different countries, nationalities and cultures, and languages which calls for excellent communication and interpersonal skills both within and external to Bayer Crop Science;
  • Good written and oral communication skills for effective interaction and representation of Breeding and Bayer values internally and externally with a variety of groups;
  • Ability to promote cross functional collaborations to Breeding internally and externally;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Ability to pass driving record background check (i.e. moving violations, accidents, license suspension, etc.);
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced degree in biology, agriculture, genetics, or related scientific field;
  • Prior agriculture experience.
