The Process Engineer I is a Durham, North Carolina-based position within AstraZeneca’s Inhalation Product Development function supporting respiratory products. We are situated in Research Triangle Park site; the leading center of innovation in the Southeast!

What you will do:

Conduct manufacturing and packaging activities to support the development of respiratory product pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPI).

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; apply knowledge of product and process design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.

  • Manufacturing planning, reviewing/writing protocols, reports, and manufacturing batch records.

  • Data analysis in support of development reports.

  • Develop and implement equipment/process qualifications and standard operating procedures.

  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating calibration, maintenance, and repair services, following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures.

  • Support Quality activities, including investigations, CAPAs, change controls, and internal or external audits

  • Improve the success rate for production operations by supporting programs to minimize human error, mechanical failure, contaminations, and procedural error.

  • Communicate project status and concerns to management.

Essentials:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, industrial pharmacy, engineering, or similar discipline.

Required:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in GMP manufacturing operations in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience with equipment design, qualification, operation, and maintenance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead product development and process development production campaigns.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented personality, and ability to work efficiently in an interdisciplinary team environment. ​

Preferred:

  • Experience with inhalation products, specifically MDIs and DPIs.

  • Possesses an understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

  • Experience with controlled documentation, such as for regulatory submissions and technology transfer.
