In this vital role you will oversee drug substance engineering aspects of planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance and technical support of Amgen manufacturing processes world-wide. As part of Amgen’s Process Systems Engineering Team, s/he will function as a Cleaning and Sterilization Equipment Design SME and Network Leader in support of Drug Substance and Drug Product Engineering and Manufacturing.  

Responsibilities: 

• provides technical direction, leadership and support for a specific array of systems within: Upstream Processes, Downstream Processes, Fill/Finish, CIP/SIP, Utilities, etc.  

• leverages the global and site technical SME's engineering expertise both in the company and industry to deliver new technologies and capabilities and to optimize the life cycle management of Amgen’s assets.  

• provides direct project engineering leadership for critical capital projects. 

• partners with key systems owners, Quality, Process Development (PD) and Manufacturing and mentor this network of technical SMEs across the Amgen manufacturing and PD network to develop, drive and evolve standard methodologies, and to address issues and solve problems on behalf of the network.  

• owns Amgen standard designs and provides both direct project engagement and indirect project design oversight for projects within the network that fall within their area of equipment responsibility.  

• develops, implements and utilizes business tools to perform technical responsibilities. 

• establishes measures and evaluates metrics, taking actions based on results.  

• represents Amgen with outside firms, technical societies and regulatory bodies. Support other global and technical networks such as Contamination Control.  

• Master’s Degree in Engineering, Materials Sciences or Life Sciences 

• Professional registration, i.e. Professional Engineer license 

• Ability to manage and deliver results in a highly fluid, cross functional matrixed environment 

• 10+ years of engineering or technical experience in an engineering environment, with specific specialized expertise in the design, specification and management of Single Use Components for use in Biotech or related/applicable experience, or in the manufacturing of process components from plastics, polymers and elastomers 

• 3+ years leading business processes for the scalable and modular specification of equipment preferably related to single use assemblies from pre-qualified components 

• 3+ years of experience in executing engineering projects (cross functional team managing departmental or functional level projects) or management of engineering initiatives to drive improved outcomes  

• 5+ years of experience in engineering in biotech/pharmaceutical industry supporting manufacturing 

• Understands operational aspects of biopharma and/or engineering industries
