Summary:
The Principal Engineer, Disposables, reports to the Sr. Manager Engineering-R&D Medication Delivery and is responsible for Engineering for disposable medical devices (IV Solutions and Sets). The position serves as Technical Lead on several projects ranging from material and product design changes, product development, regulatory updates, and process improvements. Utilizing standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems for currently marketed products. Plans, schedules and leads project assignments in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of various materials/components/test methods/engineering techniques/procedures with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities:
· With minimal guidance, schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project.
· Constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with development groups and technical support groups.
· Devises new approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles.
· Ensure that the right choices are being made with regards to material choice, overall set design and supplier selection within the Baxter operation.
· Work towards meeting the intended use of the product in the various countries of sales, as applicable to the project s/he is leading.
· Develop/sustain a product in accordance with Baxter’s defined Quality and Regulatory standards.
· Solves problems that have moderate complexity and scope with minimal assistance from management.
· Independently identifies and applies the correct problem solving tools.
· Incorporate new methods and technologies for improving existing or new products/processes.
Qualifications:
· Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
· Medical Device/Medical Technology industry experience required.
· Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside primary area of expertise.
· Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
· Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams with guidance.
· Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
· Able to present the work achieved by his/her team to different stakeholders.
· Capable of articulating the benefits and risks of potential solutions and can defend the decision for final choice.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, and 5 - 8 years of related experience, or Master’s Degree in Engineering and 2- 4 years related experience.
