The position:



Postdoctoral Fellow is appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading research scientistand a motivated research group. The work will be carried out at the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory, University of Sao Paulo School of Agriculture (ESALQ), at Piracicaba, SP, Brazil.nHe/She will carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. He/She will also present the findings in appropriate publications and at confecerences.



The fellow will develop novel approaches to dissect the molecular mechanisms involved with herbivore insect adaptatiuon to plant proteinase inhibitors, and working with other team members, will conduct innovative research to characterize the insect mechanism to overcome the plant defense barriers. 



The project will utilise existing entomological, genetic and genomic resources available in plant-insect interactions to identify and functionally characterise insect genes involved in signal exchange process during their interactions.



Spefifically you will:


  • carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to the Department of Genetics that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes;

  • characterize serine peptidase encoding genes from generalists and specialists insects in response to plant proteinase inhibitors;

  • undertake regular reviews of relevant literature;

  • produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in leading journals in the field;

  • contribute to the development of innovative ideas and concepts for future research;


Location: Piracicaba, SP, Brazil



Fellowship (FAPESP): R$ 6.819,30 (month)



Tenure: up to three years term



To be considered you will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline area such as, plant-insect interactions, plant molecular biology, entomology or genetics.



You will also have strong communications skills and a history of professional behaviours, plus:


  • a record of publications in quality, peer-reviewed journals;

  • experience in both molecular and conventional aspects of plant-insect interactions;

  • experience in plant and/or insect genome analyses;

  • experience in the analysis of genes involved in host (plant)-insect interactions;

  • the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research;

  • a record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability and willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
