This position will be responsible for establishing and managing package development capability to support China-based J&J Medical Devices. The position will support China-specific new product and lifecycle projects across multiple J&J medical device businesses (Depuy-Synthes Orthopaedic Joints, Ethicon Endo-Surgery laparoscopic devices, Ethicon Wound Closure and Biosurgicals). The candidate will play a key role in building a local team that provides a sustainable package development and packaging process engineering capability for J&J China. The position will create, plan and direct complex technical projects. Will provide departmental technical expertise and company leadership, and collaborate with research and development, marketing, market research, operations, process excellence and international affiliates to identify and address unmet customer packaging needs. A key focus area will be to facilitate the localization of packaging operations, as well as device and package component supply and manufacturing. Initially, this role may also be directly responsible for packaging engineering projects in addition to managerial responsibilities until additional packaging staff is recruited.

Duties:
? Manage a team of package development engineers, assuring development of sterile barrier packaging systems supporting new product development teams and lifecycle projects.
? Plan and execute critical, unique, or controversial engineering tasks that have a significant impact on company growth.
? Lead or assist in the local (China-based) sourcing of packaging components and local medical device manufacturing activities.
? Lead brand maintenance or expansion related, or cost-saving, innovative packaging development and environmental protection related packaging projects that have a greater impact on the business.
? Fully responsible for managing team workload, including interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating project tasks.
? Determine and coordinate required package testing to ensure consistent product packaging for end users.
? Lead the problem solving of production and/or packaging related issues.
? Provide general guidelines and standards for packaging processes and functional requirements.
? Implement packaging projects that comply with local government and Johnson & Johnson global guidelines.
? Address important company issues, provide advice and solutions on packaging inventions, new designs and processes.
? Continue to improve production efficiency, create market competitiveness and value, and evaluate new packaging methods and alternatives.
? Participate in projects that assess risk and compliance assurance and provide technical guidance.
? Understand and comply with all laws, regulations and policies related to work, and always ensure a high degree of professional, ethical and compliant work practices.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor degree or above in packaging engineering or related field
2. Fluent in spoken and written English and Mandarin
3. 8-10 years of relevant work experience, medical device or related industry experience
4. Regional position and experience working with local packaging manufacturers
5. Experience with production localization (China based) projects of other multinational companies
6. Can adapt well to remote management
7. Cross-regional impact capability
8. Ability to identify risks, solve problems and escalate problems (when needed)
9. Strong process improvement related experience to effectively work with colleagues and management teams.

Preferred
1. Medical device package development or other regulated industry experience
