Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: PYP Coordinator
Location: Ningbo China
BACKGROUND TO THE POSITION:
The PYP coordinator will have suitable teaching experience of primary,
should be thoroughly conversant with the IBPYP programme and philosophy and should demonstrate organizational skills. This person will have proven teaching ability and be able to act as a pedagogical leader of the PYP and overall curriculum development School. The PYP/Curriculum Coordinator will have a pivotal role in the process of collaborative planning. The pedagogical leadership within school will be a shared responsibility between the PYP/Curriculum Coordinator and the Principal. The PYP/Curriculum Coordinator will be a member of the Senior Management Team, ensuring contact with the school’s IB department administrators and teaching staff is maintained effectively.
Specific time release will be provided to the PYP/Curriculum
Coordinator outside of other responsibilities to meet the requirements of the duties listed.
It is expected that the PYP Coordinator will be a full-time position.
The contract term is a 2 year
PYP/Curriculum Coordinator’s Responsibilities
Training/Planning/Teaching
* Training and mentoring of PYP teachers
* Whole School implementation of the PYP program.
* Ensure that all requirements of the IBO concerning the implementation of the
program are adhered to.
* Organisation of whole school planning including being in charge of the Daily Organisation Diary.
* Encourage the implementation of inquiry based learning through Mathematics and
Language curriculum.
* Assist teams or individual teachers in developing, reviewing and maintaining Units of
Inquiry.
*Support teachers and students involved in the PYP exhibition.
Daily support of school functioning including CRT placement, and emergency response to problems.
Communication/Meetings
§ Chair Professional Development and Collaborative Planning Staff Meetings each
fortnight and provide minutes to the Principal’s Assistant or Translator for typing
§ Liaise with PYP/Curriculum Coordinators at other IB schools; including our sister
school(s).
§ Lead Curriculum Subcommittees including Language A and Mathematics.
§ Work with the Chinese PYP assistant in collaborative planning and making sure
Language B curriculum meets IBO standards
§ Collect minutes of collaborative planning meetings
§ Provide liaison between NBHIS and the IBO (including responses to
questionnaires etc.
§ Encourage the use of IBO publications pertaining to PYP to staff members.
§ Co-ordinate parent and community information regarding PYP via information
sessions, newsletters, reports, assemblies, school displays.
Professional Development
A primary focus of the PYP Coordinator will be to be pastorally minded with an emphasis on
training teachers about the PYP Curriculum and how to implement inquiry-based studies.
§ Organise in-school and out-of-school Professional Development, including ensuring staff are
made aware of Professional Development opportunities.
§ Organise appropriate school visits and “PLO” for teaching staff.
Maintain a record of Professional Development, including school visits and network meeting attendance.
Resouces
§ Maintain resource tubs and inventories.
§ Purchase required resources.
Budget
§ Maintain accurate PYP Budget records.
Essential Agreements
§ Ensure that Essential Agreements are formulated and reviewed when necessary.
§ Essential Agreements are to include-
-Portfolios
-Teaching and planning of Units of Inquiry
-Assessment
-Teaching and learning – Language and Mathematics.
Documentation
§ Establish and maintain a record of completed planners both as a hard copy in the
staffroom and on a school drive
§ Publish the Program of Inquiry to all staff members in both hard copy and outside
Staffroom
§ Prepare and submit documentation for Pre-Authorisation, Authorisation and Evaluation.
§ Prepare a PYP (Overview) Handbook for new teachers and parents Reviews
§ Annually lead reviews of the Program of Inquiry.
§ Lead the review the school’s Scope and Sequence documents and ensure the implementation of this amongst teaching staff.
§ Benchmark the Mathematics Scope and Sequence documentation
§ Maintain School scope and sequence for Mathematics on Managebac.
