JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-time English language teacher needed for Saturday classes throughout the academic year 2019-2020 to teach conversational and academic English to Chinese music students, with specific focus on music vocabulary and description of musical experience.

REPORT LINE: Associate Dean for Pre-College and Educational Development

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Teach seven weekly periods of English on Saturdays throughout the Autumn semester 2019-2020;

? Basic conversational English and music vocabulary for beginning learners;

? Music vocabulary and description for intermediate learners;

? Teach reading and academic vocabulary for advanced learners;

? Prepare teaching materials based on music instruction in consultation with faculty;

? Assess student progress by month, semester and year;

? Submit regular student reports to the Pre-College administrative team.

EXPERIENCE

? Minimum 3 years English teaching experience

? Experience teaching young and beginning learners

? Familiarity with Chinese culture

? Familiarity with Chinese and U.S. pedagogical practices

QUALIFICATIONS

? Native or near native level of English

? Undergraduate degree or above in Linguistics and ELT certification

? Background in Western music, including ability to read staff notation

? Basic knowledge of Chinese desirable
