Job Description

Position Summary:

The New Product Development Manager is responsible and accountable for all product development activities in the Loud Shenzhen office. The NPD Manager has a three-way role that is responsible for people management, managing project timelines and partnering with product management and operations teams to ensure success of all assigned product development programs.


Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of product development, from initial gate approval through 3 months of mass production. Works to schedule, budget and performance goals established in conjunction with partners inside and outside the engineering team.

  • Partner with product managers to ensure appropriate understanding of product requirements and focus. Understands business level requirements and translates them into executable engineering deliverables.

  • Prepare and maintain detail planning of project activities. This planning includes detailed scheduled, cost estimates and resource assignments.

  • Work closely with design and manufacturing partners on outsourced development projects. Monitor partner engineering progress, ensure that design and quality requirements are met and work with vendors to help resolve any issues or problems that arise.

  • Manage execution of internal engineering programs assigned to the Shenzhen design team. Responsible for managing project schedule, budget and personnel to ensure that design and quality objectives are met.

  • Manage the day to day activities of internal engineering staff.

  • Insure that all design activities are completed in accordance to standard development processes and procedures.

  • Coordinate activities of the project team with other engineering, operations and other stakeholders to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Hire, develop and coach engineering staff in accordance with company policies. Writes performance evaluations for department employees.

  • Work in conjunction with other managers in the engineering department to optimize the overall performance of the organization. This may include solving issues with resources, processes and products. It may include development of long, medium and short term plans.

  • Provide reports as required to communicate project budget, resource and schedule status to Sr. management. Monitor the progress of all product design activities to insure project schedule, cost and scope are achieved. Develop risk mitigation plans to address problems and risks encountered in project execution.

  • Knowledge of configuration management tools, bills of materials and engineering change orders.

  • Provide schedule estimates to Program Managers and Project Managers.

Works for the VP of Engineering and in conjunction with the Shenzhen office manager. The NPD Manager is able to take ownership of complex design tasks, break the overall task into individual design tasks and work with assigned engineers to complete the design process. Mentor department engineers in engineering processes, procedures and practices.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • 10-12 years of electronics design experience, preferably in the audio industry.

  • Ability to work in fast paced development environment coordinating with hardware, software, mechanical, and industrial design.

·Ability to complete independent tasks as part of a larger set of team deliverables.

·Good analytical skills for problem solving are required for this position.

  • Solid hardware analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to travel occasionally domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, verbally and in writing.

  • Effective interpersonal & problem-solving skills.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position leads 10 people’s team of electronic/mechanical engineers and Project Managers.


Work Environment:

Normal design engineering conditions apply, including occasional domestic and/or international travel.
