SUMMARY:

？ Operates from a deep understanding of the total situation. Collaborates with other caregivers to challenge and coordinate institutional resources to maximize advocacy for patient and family care in achieving the most effective outcomes for postpartum patient and other cross-cover need.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

？ Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care to newborns by applying general accepted standards of practice.

？ Deliver safe and competent nursing care to newborns as well as other assigned patient.

？ Demonstrate clinical skills, knowledge and critical thinking in the delivery of patient care.

？ Provide family information on disease prevention, process and rehabilitation, for instance, breastfeeding, newborn skin care, bathing, vaccine information and so on.

？ Manage complex or critical newborn care as assigned by nursing manager or other leaders, actively attend/assist neonatologist for newborn resuscitation, transferring.

？ Maintain and care in the use of the equipment and supplies.

？ Act as a resource person.

？ Provide patient family education which including newborn care, skills sharing, discharge education in accordance with hospital protocols, actively involving in patient education classes and to be the teacher as assigned.

？ Participate in call rotation including in-house call or on-call at home assigned by nursing manager or supervisor on as needed basis.

？ Provides staff and student education to be department preceptor as assigned.

？ Document all appropriate findings, procedures, follow-up care ensures acuracy and in timely manner, monitor the quaity of patient records.

？ Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities.

？ Assists in the review and development of standing orders and policies and procedures. Provides consultative direction as needed.

？ Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

？ Participates in a team approach to patient care and provides for effective communication to other staff to ensure continuity of care.

？ Carry out investigation and treatment prescribed by the physician.

？ Participate actively in physician’s round. Prepare and assist physician with procedures.

？ Collaborate and co-operate with physicians and other health care providers in the smooth delivery of patient care and service.

？ Follow - up to ensure continuity of patient care and treatment plan.

？ Cross-cover for other departments if needed as assigned.

n Modify interventions based on a deep understanding of patient and family needs attained through past experiences.

n Participate in interdisciplinary forums that promote an integrated approach to patient care.

n Implement unique and innovative approaches to meeting patient, family, and unit and practice concerns.

n Lead / coordinate activities that impact the quality of care on the unit and / or patient population.

n Act as a resource to colleagues in relation to a patient population.

n Skillfully negotiate conflict to promote collaboration.

n Understand her/his role as a member of the health care team.

n Actively empower and advocate for patients and families to maximize their participation in decision-making and goal setting.

DECISION-MAKING and ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

n Require the strong capability in clinical judgement and decision-making during the absence of team leader.

n Provide guidance and orientation to nursing staff assigned to the unit.

n Facilitate the smooth running of the department

n Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with the public and staff

n Demonstrate awareness of current nursing and health care practices

n Participate in research, clinical and service quality activities.

n Take an expanded role as assigned and deputize the nurse manager in her / his absence.

Qualifications:

？ Hold current PRC nursing license.

？ Hold certificates of 1st category vaccine administration, newborn congenital disease screening trained preferred.

？ Minimum 6 years NICU or newborn service working experience, able to delivery newborn nursing care independently.

？ Oversea working experience preferred.

？ Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and HIS.

？ Able to communicate in English for both oral and written.
