The Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) are seeking a Museum Director to guide the institution over the next decade. Situated in Central, next door to the iconic Star Ferry, the Museum comprises 45,000 square feet of exhibition and cafeteria space. The HKMM, a registered charity, was incorporated in 2003 by the shipping community to showcase Hong Kong’s extraordinary and fascinating maritime history. It is today also supported by the HKSAR Government and the public. The Museum has committed backing to develop a Marine Science Centre and to redevelop many of its existing exhibitions as part of the planned celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the HKSAR in 2022. All this creates a very exciting opportunity for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be ambitious, energetic, articulate and determined. The candidate will also be a natural leader with a sound commercial track record, a deep understanding of the role of museums in contemporary society and a strong academic background. Experience in fundraising, ideally within the cultural sector, is very desirable. Fluency in English is essential whilst fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin Chinese is preferred.
