Work independently to conduct microbiological investigations for accessing the antimicrobial/microbiological content/preservative functionality of raw ingredients and finished products. Make critical observations and recommendations to Program Manager/Manager/Senior Manager.

1. Conduct “Preliminary” Testing/Regulatory & Safety Testing

• Conduct routine microbiological studies and functions.

• Performs evaluation of new or alternate source of currently coded raw ingredients for use in an Avon Finished Ingredient formulation.

• Must have expert knowledge of GMP’s and aseptic techniques.

• Knowledgeable in operating all laboratory equipment and instruments.

• May supervise a non-exempt and/or exempt staff members to assist in conducting microbiological studies.

• Communicates and interacts effectively with various groups within R&D and Manufacturing as required, as well as outside vendors and suppliers.

• Maintains an efficient working knowledge of microbiological methods, aseptic techniques, and GMP requirements for a microbiology laboratory.

• Prepares reports, collects, prepares and assembles test data and performs data analysis, maintains accurate, up-to-date test records.

• Performs routine laboratory housekeeping, maintaining work areas and equipment in a clean ands safe manner.

• Maintains project continuity and information flow in the absence of Program Manager/Manager.

  Performance Evaluation & Testing

• Conduct routine microbiological test methods on test samples to support clinical performance claims.

• Communicates test results of such studies to Program Manager/Manager/Senior Manager and upper management.

• Maintain proper aseptic technique.

• Maintains accurate test records in devising and improving microbiological tests that are used in developing claims.

• Prepares and writes test reports.

Qualifications

BS/M.S. degree in Microbiology or related Life-Science with 3-5 years related experience in cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical for microbiology challenge testing

Strong knowledge of aseptic technique.

Good written and oral communication skills.

Must be able to learn GMP’s in a Microbiology Laboratory setting.

Must have good organizational and interpersonal skills.

Ability to handle many projects simultaneously
