Job Summary:

At dormakaba, our Mechanical Design Engineers are a vital part of our business and future growth. We challenge our team to develop products and product enhancements as defined by the company and our customers to better meet their needs. In this role, the Engineer will be engaged in research, concept development, and engineering analysis. They will support the project team with technical input, product knowledge, engineering recommendations, and documentation creation to support product development and mass production. This is accomplished by study of technical data, product manuals, physical product testing and evaluation, and CAD data analysis. We expect great things form our design engineers and give them the opportunities to utilizes their talents in productive ways.

Responsibilities:

• Support Project Teams with minimal guidance from Management through all phases of New Product Development (Concept generation, Testing, Tolling, Validation, and Production)
• Create CAD models and Drawings associate to project efforts utilizing CREO and Windchill
• Create design documentation such as 2D stack analysis, DFMEA, Test Plans, and other related items as instructed by Sr. Engineer or Management
• Work in teams as well as independently to accomplish goals
• Ensure project documentation is properly recorded
• Support Management with technical input to project scope, schedule, and budget
• Make sound recommendations for material and design process for components that meet the business and product requirements
• Support Management with technical input for design reviews and project phases deliverables

• Participate with, and support cross-functional teamwork with electrical, software and manufacturing engineers in the integrating of mechanical and electronic hardware with software for electromechanical product designs.
• Create and Analyze design concepts and detailed designs to assure compliance with product requirements, design specifications and applicable standards.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• High level proficiency in 3D CAD modeling & detailing, Creo preferred

• Proficient with standard drawing tolerance and GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-1994 or newer)
• Excellent English and Mandarin skills, both written and oral communication
• Lead all aspects of engineering design for a project with minimal guidance
• Time management and organization skills
• Excellent skills with personal computer and general business software such as MS Office
• Ability to solve complex Problems using proven engineering methods and logic
• Detail oriented

• Comprehension of kinematics, statics, dynamics, stress analysis, properties of materials, and mechanism design required.
• Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis required.
• Understanding of DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and C&E analyses.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience preferred.

• Basic understanding of multiple manufacturing processes
• Preferred: Machine, CNC, Lathe, Stamping/Sheet metal, Die Cast, Mold-Injection
• Additional (Bonus): Broaching, Extrusions, Forging, Investment Cast, Powder Metal, MIM, Deep Draw, Hydro Form, Vacuum Form
• Mentoring of Jr. Engineers

Education/Experience:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering (REQUIRED)
• Master’s Degree in Mechanical or related field (PLUS)
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing Mechanical components and Systems
• Proven history of Analysis, Collaboration, Sound Engineering Judgement, Effective Planning, and Organization
