Main Purpose and Job Scope
This job contributes to Starbucks success by directing the strategic development of marketing programs, promotions, and/or brand initiatives to support category and/or segment sales, market strategies and the Company's overall marketing approach and brand goals. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Key Accountabilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
- Lead the department in defining, developing, producing and managing Starbucks marketing programs, promotions and brand initiatives.
- Identify and communicate key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
- Successfully communicate up, down and across the organization both orally and in writing. Understands audiences and tailors communication appropriately.
- Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Develop long-term strategies and marketing plans.
- Lead and mentors cross-functional teams to develop strategic marketing approach and activities on a rolling 18-month calendar.
- Direct the development of five-year strategic plans and may develop annual operating plan to reach business goals.
- May develop marketing budgets and evaluate spend levels, effectiveness and create recommendations for optimization.
- May evaluate potential marketing partnerships, sponsorships and other on-going relationships, including measurement of operating performance and delivery of shared business objectives.
- Plan and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
- Prepare, communicate and educate client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
- Collaborate with other marketing leaders to develop an overall marketing and promotional strategy for particular market segments.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Set strategic marketing direction for promotions, projects, and/or a category that map back to the business goals.
- Develop cross-channel one voice marketing & communication plans and communication
- Proactively identifies opportunities, influences peers and senior leaders, and drives action.
- Uses promotion recaps, analysis, and consumer insights as a basis for recommendations.
- Define brand architecture and communication strategies.
- Direct the management of the promotional calendar, including promotional development and communications. Integrate promotional planning with retail and other business unit calendars.
- Lead multiple functional groups to create and adapt meaningful promotions for market segment customers
- May manages external advertising agency to develop brand & product advertising in support of business unit sales and marketing efforts.
- Oversee competitive research and trend analysis to inform and guide marketing strategy and programs.
- Manages staff resources and coordinates with company market research function.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
- Develop a team that works collaboratively. Cultivate team morale and motivation by setting obtainable goals, establishing a shared vision, providing clear communication and constructive feedback.
- Challenge and inspire partners to achieve business results.
- Proactively build rapport with peer set.
- Conduct and ensure the completion of performance reviews.
- Ensure partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
- Oversee training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
- Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
Requirements
Summary of Experience
- 10 years + of marketing work experience in international FMCG companies, with work spans across new product and campaign/activation development, and brand management
- Demonstrates a high level of maturity – works collaboratively and positively steers team through changes; confronts conflict constructively up-front
- Possess strong team leadership and growth mindset
- Has strong communication and influencing skills – can communicate effectively with both local teams and overseas team
- Strong drive-for-result mindset with problem solving skills
- Consumer/Customer oriented and is able to develop locally relevant insights from consumer understanding and emerging trend
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Functional brand and promotional marketing expertise: Knowledge of direct or indirect retail, CPG and brand marketing. Progressive experience in marketing program development/planning and implementation. Communication planning and brand management.
- Strong communicator: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to confidently present objectives and desired outcomes to leadership and cross functional teams. Consistently use communications and presentation skills to influence outcomes. Ability to influence others without authority to get things done in a timely fashion.
- Critical strategic and creative thinking: Ability to think strategically and creatively. Ability to problem-solve and drive towards resolution. Ability to write focused, strategic briefs, and evaluate creative and marketing programs against strategy.
- Business and financial acumen: Strong analytical and measurement/tracking skills. Conduct analysis and present data and findings clearly, concisely and accurately. Be able to draw meaningful conclusions and indicated actions, and set performance benchmarks.
- Project and process management skills: Ability to manage time and budget effectively, including balancing multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Ability to identify or implement systems and process improvements.
- Cross-functional collaboration and leadership: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience leading and/or facilitating cross-functional or organizational groups. Ability to build a level of trust and respect amongst peer group, and recognizes the importance of solid relationships.
