Job Description
The focus of this position is on supporting the growing business operations of Amgen’s operations in China. The lawyer taking this role will be an advisor on a variety of general operating issues and commercial transactions, including general corporate governance matters, sales, marketing, R&D, and distribution matters, joint ventures, and collaborations involving biotech and pharmaceutical products.
This role would directly report to General Counsel of China, based in Shanghai also.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Draft and/or review of contractual arrangements, including distributorships, supply and discounting agreements, contracts for goods and services, clinical trials, and agreements with healthcare professionals;
- Advise sales, marketing, medical and access teams on development of programs and execution of activities
- Support complex commercial and strategic transactions (JVs, collaborations, co-promotion and co-development, licensing, etc.)
- Advise on policies, programs and conduct training, including competition law and anti-corruption/anti-bribery regimes
- Advise and assist on various corporate governance and administration matters involving Amgen’s corporate entities as needed
- Support dispute resolution and litigation efforts; participate in internal investigations as needed.
- Law degree from recognized university law faculty. Qualification to practice law in China.
- 5+ years relevant professional experience as an in-house counsel or attorney with multi-national corporation or international organization. Working experiences of both Pharmaceutical and prominent law firm are preferred.
- Fluency and prior work experience in both English and Chinese languages is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Contract drafting skills and knowledge of general commercial law, labor law and dispute resolution.
- Strong interpersonal skills, judgment, maturity and flexibility.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and provide high level of services across multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to operate both independently and as part of a larger in-house legal and compliance groups.
- Willingness to travel when business needs.
- Experience implementing compliance policies, programs and training; experience with relevant regulations and industry codes of conduct is preferred.
