Job Description

The job holder will act as instructional and administrative leader in overseeing the operation of the relevant grades and provide leadership, supervision and spiritual guidance to the teaching staff. Strong leadership and oversight are required in supervising of staff, creating a safe environment, monitoring curriculum, budget development and other duties associated with the successful operation of the School and guide the School enthusiastically in accomplishing the overall mission.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Spiritual Leadership

  • Be an inspirational and visionary leader for all faculty, students and staff.
  • Maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters.
  • Ensure that the work environment is Christian-based, nurturing, wholesome and loving.
  • Lead the staff, students and school families into a deeper spiritual commitment by example and teaching.
  • Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation, and be a Christian witness and role model to them in order to help them grow in their faith.

2. Administrative Leadership

(a) Internal

  • Provide the school environment with appropriate principles, structures, systems and procedures in which staff and students can function efficiently, effectively and productively. Establish, implement and evaluate procedures used to carry out the daily routine of the School. Provide student discipline as necessary.
  • Ensure the school programs and activities are adequately planned and supervised.
  • Oversee the evaluation of all aspects of the School’s performance and reporting the outcomes as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Admissions Office to accommodate new students and ensure in optimal student capacity.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly in a variety of ways through regular meetings with staff, students and parents.

 

(b) Parent Communication

  • Communicate with parents with a welcoming attitude and openness; maintain cooperative working relationship with appropriate confidentiality.
  • Develop and support community relations with parents and local community groups as a means of furthering school programs, encouraging parent collaboration and strengthening community participation in the school activities.

 

(c) Staff Management

  • Participate in the selection of new teaching staff.
  • Supervise and appraise the performance of the school staff.
  • Lead the school staff in continuous professional development. Identify teacher professional learning needs and promote teacher professional learning in content and pedagogy.

 

(d) Resource Management

  • Monitor and oversee the development of the annual budget.
  • Ensure effective and efficient budget management and resource management.
  • Involve the staff in determining priorities for instructional supplies.

 

(e) Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of the school system. Monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations that apply to the School.
  • Ensure all business, personnel and student records are adequate, accurate and administered legally.

 

(f) External

  • Be a brand ambassador to cultivate appropriate relationships with a wide range of outside constituencies.

3. Academic Leadership

  • Contribute to the school-wide curriculum development which matches the aims, values and vision of the School and the curriculum strategy.
  • Support attainment of the Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs).
  • Administer policies for the classification, promotion, and retention of students in the school.

4. Professional Responsibilities

  • Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships among faculty and staff.
  • Contribute to the collaborative culture of professional learning communities by demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning, engaging in learning-focused conversations, and observing peer instruction.
  • Collaborate with teachers and department chairs in the on-going articulation and evaluation of curricular programs including curriculum planning and writing, determining scope and sequence priorities, effective teaching strategies, assessment practices, and related textbook adoptions.
  • Set annual professional goals, support subject/divisional and school vision and goals.
  • Participate in professional development and keep abreast of latest trends in education and subject matters, and share with peers and explore opportunities to further enhance current practices.
  • Serve on committees and participate in meetings to support the overall school program.
  • Commit to learn about and apply conflict resolution strategies according to biblical peacemaking principles.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Master degree in Education or Education Administration from an accredited university. Master in school leadership is preferable.
  • Possess a licence in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education is highly preferable.
  • At least 10 years of classroom teaching and at least 5 years of recent successful experience as a school leader or administrator is preferred.
  • Experience in early childhood education is preferable.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in North American curriculum and/or international schools.

  • Able to demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working and communicating effectively with students, faculty, parents, administrators, school staff and general public.
  • Be a collaborative leader who is able to recognize and motivate talents and develop future leaders.
  • Display advanced level of intercultural sensitivity, international-mindedness, and engagement with Hong Kong culture.
  • High level of personal accountability.
  • Openness to give and receive feedback to facilitate growth and achievement.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and strategizing skills.
