This position is placed within the newly founded LEGO Ventures unit in the LEGO Brand Group

LEGO Ventures is responsible for delivering future growth and mission impact for the LEGO Brand Group through strategic investments and acquisitions of companies, as well as building new companies, focusing on distinct strategic verticals.The purpose of the position is to support the execution of the LEGO Ventures investment strategy and as such be a driver of the identification and execution of deals across all maturity stages (i.e. early stage, late stage, minority and majority investments, full acquisitions and follow-on investments). The position will be reporting to the Head of LEGO Ventures and will be focusing on the China market.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build market maps and understand the basic technical underpinnings of startups operating within sub-sectors of LEGO Ventures opportunity spaces.
• Develop and maintain a network into entrepreneurs, academics, and investors in order to gain access to companies
• Conduct due-diligence and market validation for companies in deal pipeline
• Support the assessment of follow-on investments
• Be an active contributor on deal selection, completing financial and non-financial diligence with high levels of precision, and crafting first drafts of deal memos.
• Conduct first meetings to screen companies for meetings with Directors
• Responsible for building robust financial models for potential opportunities
• Help identify, execute and handle all aspects of deal sourcing
• Support the on-going development and understanding of LEGO Ventures Opportunity Spaces
• Develop and maintain internal network across the existing LEGO branded entities in order to gain access to domain authorities and specialists in relation to deal assessment and due-diligence

KEY CHALLENGES

• Working with early stage high risk investments and thus having to handle a high level of uncertainty and failure
• Conducting due-diligence and risk assessment of early stage startups with limited information
• Working across multiple time zones
• Internal and external partner management and collaboration

DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL

• High development potential with the potential of building best practice within Corporate Venturing
• Gaining understanding of assessing and capturing strategic value creation in the context of the LEGO Brand
• Potential to grow upwards or lateral to other roles in LEGO Ventures or the other LEGO Branded entities

REQUIREMENTS

• 2+ Years meaningful experience in venture capital/private equity, specifically within sourcing and assessing deals
• Experience in EdTech or Consumer products viewed favorably
• Fluent/highly advanced in written and spoken English & Mandarin – understanding Venture Capital terminology key
• MsC or BsC within Finance, business development or similar viewed favorably
• Deeply analytical and thoughtful in analyzing a company’s financials and growth prospects
• Advanced Excel/modeling/ forecasting skills are critical, as is advanced knowledge of Word, and PowerPoint. A deep understanding of accounting, valuation, and financial statements is highly valued
• Organized, focused and able to work in a dynamic, ambitious environment
• Ability to multitask, self-motivate together with a strong work ethic are vital.

• Strong partner management skills encouraging collaboration and curiosity from partners
