Class Setting: Co-Teaching Model
At AUIS Primary School the learning in each class is delivered by two fully-qualified Co-
Teachers: one native English-speaking teacher and one native Chinese-speaking teacher, who
work together to create a functional bilingual classroom setting.
The Co-Teachers share equal authority in the classroom, and together plan and implement
lessons that are engaging, interactive, and promote students’ critical thinking and creativity. We
draw on the children’s interests to create units of study that follow the standards of the blended
Curriculum.
JOB DESCRIPTION
A teacher shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher under the direction of the Year
level coordinator and ultimately Principal.
Professional Duties
1. Teaching
(a) Planning and preparing courses andlessons according to the School’s curriculum.
(b) Teachingassigned pupils,accordingtotheireducationalneeds,includingthesettingand
grading of work to be carried out by the pupils in school and at home;
(c) Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils;
(d) On occasions, providing cover for teachers who are indisposed necessarily absent;
(e) Providing reports, oral and written assessments on a regular basis, and references as and
when required.
2.Other activities
(a) Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils assigned;
(b) Attending to the personal and social needs of pupils;
(c) Communicating with parents outside school hours when necessary;
(d) Attending departmental meetings and other meetings arranged for the purposes
described above;
3.Training and development
(a) Reviewing teaching methodology and curriculum delivery when required;
(b) Participating in training and professional development organized by the Foundation;
4.Educational methods
Teachers are expected to co-operate with leadership staff and other colleagues in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching programs, teaching methodology, student assessment, pastoral programs and respect decisions jointly made.


5. Discipline, health and safety
Teachers are expected to maintain professional standards and self- discipline in the classroom at all
times and are responsible for safeguarding their own health and safety both when authorized to
be on school premises and when engaged in authorized school activities elsewhere;
6. Public examinations
Teachers re required to:
(a) Prepare pupils for public examinations and preparatory assessments leading to such
examinations;
(b) Invigilate and supervise pupils during examination periods.
7. Administration
(a) To take part, if required, in the review, development and management of activities related to
the curriculum.
(b) Attending assemblies, registering the attendance of pupils and supervising pupils, whether
these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions (includes supervising
of pupils during breaks, and at lunch as laid down on the duty roster.)
Basic Requirements
Teachers are expected to demonstrate:
(a) A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, colleagues
and parents
(b) The ability to observe and evaluate students' strengths, individual needs and
development requirements, and the ability to design and develop course
curriculum
(c) The hold a Bachelor’s degree and have maintained relevant teaching qualifications and
certificates
(d) A cheerful, proactive, patient and caring attitude
(e) A contribution to the School’s extra-curricular program in such areas as playing musical
instruments, sports coaching and organization of club activities.
