WHAT YOU’LL DO

The IT Director for Strategy, Portfolio Mgmt. & Governance will partner with the Core Diagnostics IT leadership team to deliver the following objectives:

Provide thought leadership in the establishment of the organizational vision, mission and IT strategic framework that will be leveraged to refresh the Core Diagnostics IT Strategy in alignment with the Abbott and Core Diagnostics business and Abbott IT strategies.  Manage the overall Core Diagnostics IT portfolio, including resource capacity, in partnership with the Core Dx IT Business Relationship Managers.  Establish formal governance process to provide Sr. Business leadership insight into the CoreDX application health and IT portfolio to drive decision making and prioritization of business investments. Drive organizational efficiency improvement programs Initiate external benchmarking/competitive analysis that can be leveraged to drive innovative ideas internally as well as for our external customers.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proven team leader, able to conceptualize, plan, document and communicate effectively.  Possess energy, develop value-added service definitions, and help lead change across the Core Diagnostics IT Organization.

  • Understand the healthcare industry and related Corporate and Divisional strategies.

  • Develop a strategic framework that anticipates business risk and future trends.  Communicate and implement the strategic framework across the  Core Dx IT Business Relationship Managers which they can leverage to establish the Core Dx IT strategy and portfolio roadmaps in partnership with the business.

  • Ensure annual refresh of the Core Diagnostics IT strategy and LRP roadmaps.

  • Monitor and report on monthly Core Diagnostic IT portfolio demand management metrics in accordance with Corporate guidelines.

  • Establish the monthly governance process and metrics that will be leveraged with Core Diagnostics business leaders to assess overall portfolio and application health that will be leveraged for prioritization of future investments.

  • Coordinate monthly Portfolio and App Health Governance Review Meetings with Senior Management.

  • Prepare monthly IT Portfolio and App Health packages for Sr. Management Review.

  • Lead and ensure IT operating requests are completed per Corporate guidelines.

  • Develop consistent communication framework that can be leveraged by Core Diagnostic IT Leaders in communicating enterprise-wide activities/initiatives that impact the business (tech debt, infrastructure upgrade, SaaS policies, audits, etc.) as well as providing portfolio insight in business unit updates.

  • Lead organizational efficiency improvement programs and measurement (i.e. Financial LBE/Capital Planning reporting, capacity planning, business value definition/return on investment training, and others based on prioritized business and team feedback)

  • Evaluate opportunities for external benchmarking/competitive analysis to drive industry and technology insights across the Core Diagnostics IT organization to drive innovation and opportunities for revenue generation, cost reductions, and cost avoidance.

  • Collaborate with other parts of divisional IT, Corporate IT, and other staff departments, external partners and customers to ensure adequate and timely delivery of services.

  • Support cross divisional business initiatives and explore IT synergies and efficiencies.  

  • Facilitate deployment of new processes across Core Diagnostics IT, in partnership with the leadership team, to ensure consistency in communication and implementation. 

  • Responsible for all aspects of people leadership; setting expectations, coaching, developing, evaluating, feedback, hiring and performance management.

  • Responsible for team morale and supports a collaborative environment.

  • Champion change and innovation. Promote a global perspective.

  • Establish staffing/resource plans to meet long-range business needs determining appropriate mix of sourcing opportunities. Responsible for overall organizational effectiveness.

  • Manage issues, risks and decision making within effective time-frame and outcome.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, business administration or another discipline relevant for the healthcare industry or equivalent experience.

  • 10-12 years of IT experience in large or mid-size multinational company.

  • Broad IT expertise in various disciplines; IT Strategy, Portfolio Mgmt. and Governance experience a plus.

  • Experience leading teams - both direct and indirect.  Provides direct, complete, and “actionable” positive and corrective feedback to others.

  • Proven leadership skills, self-directed with strong work ethic.  Knows how to organize people and activities into an efficient workflow.

  • Successfully managed project portfolio with projects ranging from $1M-$15MM.

  • Strong organizational skills, including program/project governance.

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written; including Executive Presentation experience.

  • Possesses strong IT, planning, and financial knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment

  • Knowledgeable about how organizations work and knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network

  • Work effectively with all levels of management up to and including Division Directors and VPs.

  • Ability to collaborate, understand business strategy/processes, look for innovative solutions to drive business enhancements both for internal business users and external customers. 

Preferred:

  • Track record and business knowledge in pharmaceutical or medical device industry.

  • 7+ years or more of project/program management

  • Previous strategy development experience.

  • Certifications in PMP, Lean Six Sigma, BRM
