Job Description
Position: English Literature Instructor
- Location: Minhang, Shanghai, very close to subway Line 5 Jiangchuan Road
- Student age: 14-18 (US G9-12)
- Teaching Hours: 20*45-minute classes per week
- Curricula: California Common Core & AP
- Class Size (AP): 8-10 students
- Class Size (CCC): 20-25 students
- Start Date: Immediately OR February 2025 OR September 2025
Representative Subject Assignment (all subjects are 5*45-minute classes each):
1. 4*G9 English Literature
2. 4*G9 English Literature Honors
3. 4*G10 World Literature
4. 4*G11 US Literature
5. 4*G11 US Literature Honors
6. 4*G11-12 AP English Language and Composition
7. 4*G11-12 AP English Literature and Composition
7. 2*G11-12 AP English Literature and Composition & 2*G12 Writing
8. 2*G11-12 AP English Language and Composition & 2*G12 Writing
9. 2*G9 English Language Arts & 2*G12 Writing
10. Instructors who have a background in research have the option to apply for our AP Capstone position, particularly for the course G10 AP Seminar: English – please see the relevant job description.
Requirements:
- Native speaker of English or to have obtained a university degree in which the instructional language was English.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in English Literature.
- Two or more years of high school English Literature and/or Composition teaching experience
- Certificate of non-criminal record
- Must provide two references (both phone number & institutional email address)
- Must be able to lead a student-centered, project-based curriculum of inquiry and reflection.
- (Preferred) Experience teaching AP English Language and/or AP English Literature.
- (Preferred) Master’s degree in Education or in a field relevant to this discipline.
- (Preferred) US teaching license/certification; UK QTS or similar certification
Renumeration and Benefits:
- Total renumeration for the first contracted year: 288,000-384,000 RMB per annum (equivalent to 24,000-32000 per month) before tax, inclusive of housing allowance.
- Fully paid vacation including summer, winter, and all national holidays.
- Annual flight reimbursement.
- Health insurance.

- Please prepare examples of student classwork or homework for the interview (both the prompt and samples of student work that was produced, with any identifying information removed). Instructors who are unable to produce evidence of their experience and expertise need not apply.
- English Literature instructors are expected to have extensive experience teaching short fiction, novels, modern drama, Shakespeare, essay writing, poetry, and to a lesser extent literary non-fiction and Epic. Those with limited experience and proficiency in these genres need not apply.
- This is not an ESL/TESOL/TOEFL/IELTS role; such experience is not relevant for this application, nor is experience in tutoring, nor instructing at a training center.
- Initial-stage interviews are conducted online. The final stage interview may include an in-person interview at the school.
