As a Field Health Outcomes Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Field Health Outcomes Director (F-HOD) role is within the Managed Markets group within the United States Market Access organization. In this role, you will responsible for leading the execution of relevant field based health economics and outcomes research activities at assigned accounts which may include regional payers, integrated delivery networks, nationally recognized health systems, and other organized customer groups. This role will serve as the primary USMA Managed Markets point of contact to assigned accounts to convey proactive and reactive clinical and health outcome based information for products in the AZ portfolio with a major focus in Oncology to executive decision-makers, external scientific experts (ESEs), and relevant business influencers to inform access and reimbursement decisions.
  • This role will work closely with a team of National Account Directors and will represent Medical Affairs within identified oncology accounts’ executive leadership and director-level leadership (e.g. pharmacy, medical, quality) to find opportunities to generate real world evidence and HEOR related to our Oncology portfolio.

Additionally, you will be responsible to:

  • Serve as the point of contact to assigned accounts to convey proactive and reactive health economics and outcomes information for products across the AZ oncology portfolio to executive decision-makers, external scientific experts (ESEs), and relevant business influencers to inform access and reimbursement decisions
  • Provide leadership and strategic health economics and outcomes research consultation in a region to support National Oncology Account Directors (NOADs), Oncology MSL teams and other Medical Affairs field-based payer medical roles with the interpretation and communication of real world evidence and health outcomes/economic data and the development of field-based projects, initiatives, and research concepts
  • Build partnerships, evaluate opportunities, coordinate and lead cross-team efforts internally and externally to manage the implementation and execution of customer research activities, population health / quality improvement initiatives, field health outcomes projects, and value-based payment reform strategies
  • Establish strong cross-functional teamwork with field-based medical teams and other headquarter teams to effectively meet customer needs through a coordinated account based approach and to specifically support areas of health outcomes, real-world evidence (RWE), and non-indication seeking research collaborations within those accounts
  • In close collaboration with Market Access, headquarter based HEOR, and other relevant medical and business functions, support the development, communication and implementation of novel value based/outcome based arrangements
  • Collaborate with Field Sales and Market Access roles to enhance customer relationships, support critical initiatives, and improve patient health by applying practical and actionable expertise from relevant disciplines (e.g. health outcomes research, health economics, health service research, population health, real world evidence, managed markets, and clinical/product/market analysis and knowledge)
  • Work closely with headquarters based teams including HEOR, Core Medical Team Members, and Market Access to develop peer based relationships and bring the payer-related, current and forward-looking perspective/insights to inform internal strategies and to fill data gaps and help improve the overall product value proposition, brand medical strategies and tactics
  • Continuously keep well informed and incorporate knowledge of relevant healthcare trends (e.g. CER, population health, quality measures, value-based reimbursement models, etc.) to enhance the F-HOD role as a resource to internal and external customers
  • Assist and lead development of capabilities for the broader field medical organization to strengthen customer relationships through mentorship and training in areas related to health economics and outcomes research

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD, PhD, MPH, MD, DO, or MS) or related health science field and a minimum of 7 years of experience, advanced training (e.g. residency, fellowship etc.)
  • Previous experience in applying, implementing, and utilizing OR/HE (outcomes research/health economic) and population health knowledge, principles, and tools in a variety of field settings and situations
  • Excellent knowledge and command of clinical trial design and methodology, observational study designs, epidemiology, biostatistics, value frameworks and health economic principles and the ability to effective apply it within the pharmaceutical industry, payers, organized customer groups and IDNs
  • The ability to systematically assess IDNs and organized provider groups real world data assets and capabilities
  • Demonstrated business acumen, with ability to synthesize disparate information and translate into creative outputs, actions and solutions with a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including critical thinking, acting conclusively, driving accountability, and working reciprocally to influence and engage internal and external partners to deliver overall business impact
  • Ability to work across multiple therapeutic areas with a focus in Oncology. Within Oncology, ability to work across tumor types and oncology franchises simultaneously demonstrating relevant pipeline product competency, ability to multi-task and manage several account plans and needs, internal and external deadlines, and internal projects at a time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate and defend the full clinical value proposition for assigned brands
  • Able to work independently in a home office environment (without interruptions or significant distractions during normal business hours) with up to 70% travel; proximity to a major airport desirable
  • Experienced in Account Planning with ability to effectively work alongside commercial and other functions to develop robust account plans which include RWE/HEOR projects based on identified opportunities within selected accounts.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical industries’ regulatory and compliance environment and shown history of operating with ethics and integrity

Desirable Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of pharmaceutical/biotech/medical device industry relevant experience, including US Payer, market access and/or account facing managed market experience
  • Preferably have experience in a field based Medical Affairs role focusing on payer needs and a working knowledge of advanced IDN accounts and National/Regional accounts
  • Working knowledge of Managed Markets and healthcare trends impacting the healthcare industry, including quality of care, performance measures, value-based reimbursement and payment models, care coordination, and various payer segments (private and public)
  • Prefer prior Oncology experience and an established network of relationships with external partners
  • Experience conducting research studies in a collaborative fashion with US payers/IDNs
