JOB FUNCTION:
Due to the nature of this position, a very high degree of initiative, teamwork and communication are required. Responsible for engineering activities for ensuring the reliability and performance of production equipment and automation. Works in coordination with Production Services, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing to assess, maintain and improve equipment performance in the production of dialyzers. Requires both daily hands-on interaction with production machinery and personnel as well as individual and team efforts to implement machine upgrades and long term solutions. In-depth knowledge of machine design, CAD, troubleshooting and project management required.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Work Term # 1- Production Assignment
The student will work in a manufacturing focused assignment designed to familiarize them with the details of Dialyzer manufacturing- both product and processes. The student will work alongside Visual Inspectors, Machine Leaders and Production Unit Leads to physically make products for sale. During this assignment, the student will also be required to work on an additional project to support an improvement of the manufacturing operation. This work will be available during off shift hours on the days that the student is not scheduled to manufacture products.
Work Term # 2- Technical Support Assignment
The student will work with each of the main Technical Support Functions: Production Services, Facilities and QRM Lab. The assignment will be to support the technical troubleshooting, repair and maintenance activities and quality test activities in the facility. It is expected that the student will contribute to an improvement in each of these areas during the course of the assignment.
Work Term # 3- Engineering Assignment
The student will work in an Engineering capacity providing analytical support, Process Improvement and Project Management to improve manufacturing performance.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS: List minimum level required to perform the job competently:
Education:
- Sophomore or Junior Bachelor level student enrolled in Engineering at Auburn University
Experience/Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated maturity, responsibility and respect for others
- Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects.
- Computer skills including familiarity with word processing programs, spreadsheets, and graphics.
- Desire to continually learn in to keep up with changing technology.
- Strong work ethic and high level of self motivation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements for a position will vary depending on work terms. These must be reviewed with the supervisor and should be attached here.
- Must be able to work in an environment without daylight / windows
- Ascends/descends ladders to access machinery
- Lifting and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 50 pounds using lifting aids, techniques, or appropriate assistance
- Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends
- Use of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment is required
- Requires standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing and crawling.
