Detailed Description:
Incumbents are fully qualified to execute job/role accountabilities working independently on most aspects of the job. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Tasks are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required to complete recurring assignments independently and to determine the best methods to follow to complete assignments. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may have a negative impact on the division’s/department’s operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Works under general Supervision. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods are referred to manager or expert resource. May demonstrate work methods to new employees. Builds internal and external relationships, with emphasis on those that facilitate the achievement of job/role accountabilities, such as relationships with key suppliers, customers and internal service.

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

Develops new or modifies and improves existing designs or techniques related to systems, products, devices, components, processes, methods, equipment, facilities or production. Provides intermediate technical leadership in the application and support of the PWB design tools. Demonstrates knowledge of the physical layout tools with minimal direction from senior staff. Designs, develops and implements IT applications for business and manufacturing processes. Will also provide feedback to other engineering groups and possibly the customer to ensure smooth production of products. Solves assigned technical product, process, component, or material problems affecting efficient operation and/or manufacture of products within a specific area of responsibility.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:
  • Engineering Foundation Competencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of the design process for systems and printed circuit boards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems and printed circuit board manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of testing software, processes and methodologies and failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of computer programming and ability to use applications specific to this position, such as C++, ECAD, MCAD, etc.
  • Knowledge of IT platforms, database design.
  • Knowledge of some or all of the following: UNIX, NT, database management system.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Ability to evaluate, diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
  • Knowledge of materials and components used in the construction of printed circuit boards and subassemblies.
  • Knowledge of industry and quality standards for incoming materials.
  • Ability to evaluate materials, gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
    Physical Demands:
  • Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
    Typical Experience:
    Two to four years’ relevant experience.
    Typical Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
