Job Title Dual Language Teacher

Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Class Teacher (CT), to lead whole class Mandarin learning according to the school’s policies, this could be in small groups as part of continuous provision
- To have an in depth understanding of how the environment supports learning
- To develop a co-teaching relationship with the CT, demonstrating proficiency in English and Mandarin
- In collaboration with the CT, to plan for children’s learning to support language learning in Mandarin within the expectations of the curriculum framework
- To independently observe and assess the children, putting in place next steps in their language learning. Supporting the ATs in observing. Collate observations and assessments that the ATs may contribute to each child’s language profile
- Alongside the CT, to report to parents on children’s progress in all curriculum areas, but with particular reference to Mandarin language development
- To demonstrate an in depth knowledge of the EYFS/ NC
- To understand the main principles behind Dual Language learning
- To have an in depth understanding of relevant pedagogy and to evidence this in practice
- To act as a mentor to new and developing Assistant Teachers/DLTs
- To play a lead role in the professional development of ATs
- Understand and work within with policies and procedures relating to their age phase and the whole College including the schools Safeguarding policy
- Act as a role model, showing awareness of individual needs
- Provide administrative support as appropriate
- To support the teacher in the management of classroom resources, the replenishment of materials, setting up of and maintaining the classroom and ensuring the safety of the learning and teaching environment
- Participate in the school performance management framework and participate in training and development activities as required
- Assist with the supervision of children out of classroom times as required and accompany school trips and other out of school activities as required
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Class Teacher or Leadership team
Requirement
Qualifications
- A local teacher qualification (for example: teaching license)
- Minimum English language proficiency: Common European Framework B1 (reference level IELTs 5)
- 3 years’ minimum experience
- CACHE units (desirable)
Skills and Experience
- Proven performance as an Assistant Teacher meeting all the AT standards
- A native Mandarin speaker
- Proven relevant pedagogy
- Effective practice in a dual or bilingual environment
- Evidence of proficiency in written Mandarin
