Department: Wellington College China Central Office / Institute of Learning

Supervisor: Executive Director of IOL


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Lead contextually relevant research projects designed to inform policy and practice

  • Under the guidance of the Executive Director of IOL, establish and lead strategically important research projects

  • Engage school leaders and teams in contributing to research projects

  • Share findings from research projects, including publication in professional and academic journals

2. Support the effective implementation and development of the Huili bilingual model

  • Establish links with senior educators in Shanghai and beyond to provide guidance and support

  • Work with the Executive Director of IOL on evaluating and developing the framework and detail of the bilingual curriculum; including assessment structures for some subjects and pastoral systems

  • Quality assure the educational provision in bilingual schools along with Mandarin in the International schools

  • Work with school-based teams to strengthen provision and build capacity through effective training and mentoring programmes aligned to College strategic plan

3. Government relations and Chinese education partnerships

  • Establish an understanding of the vision and educational model of the group

  • Foster effective relationships with a range of education bodies across China

  • Manage on-going relations with local government officials

  • Promote effective communication channels with leaders in the education commission and/bureau associated with WCC schools

  • Generate high value and impact projects within the Chinese education sector

  • Foster successful partnership with leaders in the educational community in which WCC schools are located and create opportunities for educational related projects that support professional learning and development

4. Chinese leader development across the group

  • Establish links with senior educators in Huili and beyond to provide coaching, mentoring and training

  • Work with the Executive Director of IOL on evaluating quality of leadership

  • Work with school-based teams to strengthen provision and build capacity through effective training and mentoring programmes aligned to College strategic plan

5. Contribute to specific programmes offered by the Huili Institute of Learning

  • Work with the Executive Director of IOL to develop training material to be used by the Institute of Learning

  • Lead specific training programmes

  • Contribute to marketing and promotion of the WCC Institute of Learning

6. Strategic input to start-up of projects

  • Provide input to the Executive Director and leadership teams during the project management and start-up phases of future bilingual Schools
  • Lead on specific areas of operational and strategic work in the bilingual schools during project-management and start-up phase


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree and relevant education

Major: Education

Language: Fluent written and spoken English

Working experience: 10 years and above of relevant experience; more than 5 years senior leadership experience

Expertise:

  • Broad knowledge of the Chinese education system including curriculum design and staff development

  • An appreciation of international education approaches and model
  • Experience of working with local education commission and bureau

Preferred aptitudes:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to communicate effectively with different types of people and in cross-culture environment

  • Deep understanding of Chinese curriculum and education

  • Strong grasp of Chinese and international best practices in education

  • Strong passion for the education

  • Proven ability to work with metrics, numbers and trends, and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis

  • Personal integrity, accountability and credibility
  • Strong mindset for continuous improvement to meet or exceed expectations, commitment to quality and attention to detail
