As Director of US policy, you will support the US commercial business and the Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism and Respiratory Therapeutic Areas (TAs), reporting to the Head of US Policy.  You will play a critical role in advancing AstraZeneca’s US policy priorities and executing strategic alignment and pull-through of proactive and reactive policy shaping opportunities including in the areas of pricing, reimbursement, access, and affordability.  You will also support the Head of US Policy in developing and executing strategies and campaigns to defend against harmful public policy proposals. You'll work collaboratively, as needed, with teams across the US business, BioPharmaceuticals, Oncology and the global Corporate Affairs team.  The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of strategic planning and execution, stakeholder engagement expertise, and strong oral and written communications skills to collaborate and engage with internal and external stakeholders.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute public policy positions and strategies to support the goals of the US business as a whole, TA priorities, and US Corporate Affairs
  • Collaborate closely with members of the Government Affairs team on government affairs priorities 
  • Support the Head of US Policy in developing and executing internal and external programs to drive awareness around US public policy issues serving as subject matter expert on assigned issues
  • Work with US Corporate Affairs, including Patient Advocacy and Government Affairs colleagues to support relationships with key patient groups and other stakeholders on policy issues 
  • Participate in trade association work groups to represent the company’s interests 
  • Demonstrate and maintain strong working relationships with key external stakeholders (including but not limited to:  HHS (especially CMS), the Administration, trade associations, think tanks, and third party allies)
  • Clearly and impactfully communicate AstraZeneca positions on assigned issues to federal agencies and other external stakeholders


Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience incorporate affairs, public affairs, public policy or legal position relevant to biopharmaceutical issues
  • Deep understanding of public policy issues impacting the pharmaceutical industry and AZ
  • Effective writer and communicator 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to navigate complex and matrixed organizations
  • Amenable to occasional travel and after hours work and weekend responsibilities  - up to 10% travel required 

Desirable: 

  • Graduate or law degree
  • Experience working with patient advocacy groups, professional associations, and trade associations
